Hispanics In Springfield Frightened Following Crackdown

The Hispanic population in Springfield continues to feel the effects of an immigration crackdown that took place last month. Many said they are afraid to leave their house following the recent investigation by immigration officials. Rick Casares is a Robertson County resident who works closely with the immigrant population. He said the population that seems to be dwindling in Springfield. In December, immigration and customs enforcement officers arrested dozens of suspected illegal immigrants in Springfield. Many of them worked at the Electrolux plant. Nestor is Puerto Rican and works at Electrolux. He said the company fired around 200 undocumented workers. After that, hundreds more fled.
