Has WorldNetDaily Officially Has Jumped the Shark?

“Jump the Shark” is a reference to the episode of Happy Days where Arthur Fonzarelli jumps over a shark while water skiing. It was seen as many as an attempt to gain attention and get people to watch a failing show that had out lived its popularity. The term is used to generally describe the point at which a show, or anything, careens into the ridiculous because they have nothing left to really talk about.
So why do I ask the question “Has WorldNetDaily Officially Jumped the Shark?” Because of this article about “In God We Trust” on the latest one dollar coins:
The words “In God We Trust” have been placed in prominent display on U.S. coinage since 1864, until a new $1 coin series honoring U.S. presidents was introduced at the beginning of 2007, when the motto was concealed on the edge. But no more.Congress has approved a consolidated spending bill, and President Bush has signed it into law, that includes a provision for the motto to be placed on either the front or back of new coins in the series.
The U.S. Mint placed the “In God We Trust” motto on the edge of the $1 presidential coins, not on the face, triggering an outcry from Americans
WND broke the story earlier when the coins were announced, showing how the acknowledgment to God was hidden on the coins’ edges.
Yes, with all the real issues facing America these days, Bob Unruh over at WorldNetDaily and his colleagues are getting in a pissing match with the federal government over exactly what our coinage should look like?
They’ve moved dangerously close to the realm of the absurd with this crusade.
I guess there are not enough real issues that they have an opinion on these days where an article like this even makes their publication. Let’s get real. First those sitting around with too much time on their hands tried the rumor that there was no “In God We Trust” on the coins to get the masses riled up. When that didn’t work others tried the “well, it is there but it is not prominent enough” argument just to find something else they didn’t like about the coins which we really need to consider adopting considering the high cost of keeping $1 bills in circulation.
Dear God! If WND thinks this is one of the worst things we have to worry about they had better open their eyes. What’s next? A complaint about the font that “In God We Trust” is printed in? Or maybe yet further complaints that “In God We Trust” still isn’t in a place that some over at WND think it should be on the new design?

WND needs to get back to important issues rather than debates about the aesthetics of where “In God We Trust” appears on our money.
