ALBANY (AP) - Gov. Eliot Spitzer on Friday pardoned Frederick Lake, a Jamaican immigrant convicted in a robbery, sparing the Brooklyn resident from deportation. It is Spitzer’s first pardon in a New York tradition of holiday pardons, clemencies and sentence commutations. Lake entered the United States legally in 1987, but was convicted in 1991 of first-degree robbery. Spitzer says Lake has served his six-year sentence and has been living with his wife and sons in Brooklyn since 1997.

On topic and intelligent comments are always welcome as are humorous observations. But liberal talking points with no basis in reality, off topic comments, spam and advertisements are not. Even though you may think you are an intelligent liberal, you probably are not. I agree. Spitzer may remove penalties for law-
breakers, such as fines or jail time. But he
cannot confer citizenship. Deport the bum and
send Spitzer to Gitmo for ‘re-education.’
Lake is not an “illegal” alien. The headline got it wrong even though the article mentions that the Jamaican was here legally. He also was born of an American father and could have got US citizenship based on that alone.
The point is he WAS here legally. Until he broke the law and faced deportation. That stripped him of his legal status since you cannot obviously deport a “legal” alien.
One can be legal and then become illegal. The fact that he was once legal is moot. It happens all the time to people that overstay their visas.
You can play semantics but you won’t get far.
