Novak: Huckabee is “False Conservative”
J.J. Jackson* | December 1, 2007 |
The “No Freaking DUH!” award of the week goes to Robert Novak for pointing out that Mike Huckabee is a “false conservative”.
Who would respond to criticism from the Club for Growth by calling the conservative, free-market campaign organization the “Club for Greed”? That sounds like Howard Dean, Dennis Kucinich or John Edwards, all Democrats preaching the class struggle. In fact, the rejoinder comes from Mike Huckabee, who has broken out of the pack of second-tier Republican presidential candidates to become a serious contender — definitely in Iowa and perhaps nationally.Huckabee is campaigning as a conservative, but serious Republicans know that he is a high-tax, protectionist advocate of big government and a strong hand in the Oval Office directing the lives of Americans. Until now, they did not bother to expose the former governor of Arkansas as a false conservative because he seemed an underfunded, unknown nuisance candidate. Now that he has pulled even with Mitt Romney for the Iowa caucuses and might make more progress, the beleaguered Republican Party has a frightening problem.
Hate to break it to yah, but all the GOP candidates are “false conservatives” on one issue or another. Either they are big government apologists or they are head in the sand isolationists. Take your pick.

On topic and intelligent comments are always welcome as are humorous observations. But liberal talking points with no basis in reality, off topic comments, spam and advertisements are not. Even though you may think you are an intelligent liberal, you probably are not. Keep this in mind as trolling is prohibited and will result in your comments not being approved and comments informing us how much we are a bunch of idiots because you say we are or espousing hate towards the truth are often moved directly to the official “I Hate You/You’re An Idiot” thread. Save us all the time and post there directly if you have a comment that would meet those criteria. Commenters reserve the right to mock claims about how liberal ideas, such as higher taxes, actually work and how conservative and right wingers, are NAZIs, racists, sexists, etc. and will do so with great regularity. By posting a comment you agree to abide by the rules of this site.

It’s good to see that Novak has caught on to what you have been saying for months.
Comment has been deleted because it was determined to be off topic. Post is about Mike Huckabee and not Clinton and 9-11.
Please keep comments on topic.

I wonder who Robert Novak endorses, since we care what he thinks?

Disgruntled Huckabee supporter?
Why would you use Ronnies name in you post when he hasn’t even posted in this thread. Completely tasteless.
PM, since this person wanted to use RRG’s monkier I thought I would have a little fun and edit it.
So, “LOSER WHO WISHES HE COULD BE AS COOL AS RonniesRayGun” do you want to actually discuss the substance of what Novak said or do you just want to be generally annoying?

“I wonder who Robert Novak endorses, since we care what he thinks?”
Uh … ok … so if you don’t care what other people think then why are you reading and posting on blogs which are comprised of what what other people think?
And the even bigger question is if you don’t care what other people think then what makes you think we care what you think?
Huh?
Instead of making fun of me, why don’t you compose yourselves and look up who Robert Novak endorses?

“Instead of making fun of me, why don’t you compose yourselves and look up who Robert Novak endorses?”
So now we are to ignore the ignorance of your argument and talk about what you want to talk about?
Doesn’t work that way bub.
Stay on topic or get labeled a troll.

Why? Does who he endorses make a difference in the facts about what he discusses concerning Huckabee? Why do you want to avoid the topic of Huckabee’s failings? Scared?

One thing in particular that I like about this site is Jeff has pretty much taken blows at all the “conservative” Republicans and made sure we all know why they aren’t strong standard bearers for the banner.
The other thing I like is that while some regular peeps here are supporting specific candidates they aren’t ashamed or afraid to admit that their candidate has flaws.
But then we get people like like LOSER WHO WISHES HE COULD BE AS COOL AS RonniesRayGun who originally decided that he just had to let everyone know that he was “NOT RonnieRayGun” by using that was his original s-n who appear to rather wish to avoid a discussion of the weaknesses of each candidate. Why? I suppose “LOSER WHO WISHES HE COULD BE AS COOL AS RonniesRayGun” is a Huckabee supporter and much like many Ron Paul supports can’t deal with reality.

He has said he would like to see Ron Paul as President last I heard. So what? We’ve done a lot of work also showing Ron Paul’s failings and none of the regulars here (not even Jeff who wrote this article) endorses Ron Paul even going so far as to say that only Paul and McCain are the two GOP candidates he has ruled out voting for.
So what does it matter who Novak endorses? This site generally tends to not agree with him on that issue so the point is moot and only serves to distract from the topic at hand which is Mike Huckabee.
So either discuss Mike Huckabee or let it rest.

Agreed. One thing to say it would matter who Novak endorses if he was spouting lies or unsupported opinions about Huckabee. Like those that supported Kerry in 2004 did with the Swift Vets. Then it would matter. But Huckabee IS a “false conservative”.
Some like to think that because he has such a strong Christian background that that makes his Christianity beyond question. But it does not.
