NBC Reverses – Decides To Run Pro-Troops Ads

After initially rejecting a pair of pro-troop ads, thanking soldiers for their service, NBC has reversed their stand after realizing that 1) they don’t control information and that there are legions of bloggers and citizens out there disseminating knowledge and 2) that their decision made them look bad.

Originally:

NBC has rejected an advertisement that asks viewers to remember and thank U.S. troops during the holiday season because it refers to the sponsor’s Web site, which the network said was too political, Associated Press reports. The ad is part of a seven-figure newspaper and television campaign by Freedom’s Watch, a conservative group that supports the Bush administration’s policy in Iraq.

NBC said it declined the ad not because of its message but because it invites viewers to go to Freedom’s Watch’s Web site, which advocates support for the war. NBC has a policy against airing controversial issue ads.

But apparently NBC has no qualms what-so-ever about airing programs containing controversial issues. This is the network after all that has nutjobs like Chris Matthews on the pay roll and also dedicated hours to the support of Al Gore’s Church of the Bogus Global Warming Crisis.

But apparently messages showing support for our troops and their mission is beyond these levels.

Now NBC has reversed course after negative feedback:

WASHINGTON (AP) — NBC reversed course Saturday and decided to air a conservative group’s television ad thanking U.S. troops. The ad, by the group Freedom’s Watch, asks viewers to remember the troops during the holiday season. NBC had refused to air the ad because it guides viewers to the Freedom’s Watch Web site, which NBC said was too political.

But in a statement issued Saturday evening, NBC said:

“We have reviewed and changed our ad standards guidelines and made the decision that our policy will apply to content only and not to a referenced Web site. Based on these amended standards the Freedom’s Watch ad will begin to run as early as Sunday.”

Hold on a second while I get my liberal B.S. to English translator. Ok …

Beep! Beep! … “We at NBC were surprised at how quickly the vast right wing conspiracy reacted to our anti-soldier stance. Their propaganda campaign was so effective that it has duped true Americans into believing that we are actually against the troops and the war. Even though we are, we have decided that in the interest of good public relations to air the ads. Of course we will work hard to re-establish our anti-troop and anti-war message with our core audience in the near future.”

So does this new policy of applying their standards to “content only and not to a referenced Web site” mean that if the racists at Stormfront want to run ads on a particular issue that as long as the ad itself is not offensive NBC will accept them?

The liberal media is falling apart faster than they know what to do about it.

On topic and intelligent comments are always welcome as are humorous observations. But liberal talking points with no basis in reality, off topic comments, spam and advertisements are not. Even though you may think you are an intelligent liberal, you probably are not.
