Houston police believe they’ve busted major check counterfeit ring run by illegal aliens

HOUSTON — Houston police say they’ve helped break up a substantial counterfeit check ring… “The method of operation of these individuals was to have one person obtain a job as a laborer at a legitimate business to get a paycheck,” said Lt. Robert Manzo with the Houston Police Department. “Once that paycheck was obtained, it was sent out of state to be professionally counterfeited and duplicated dozens of times.” Police have positively identified a link in California. They believe this ring stretched into Arizona, Austin, Dallas and Houston. They don’t know how long this operation may have been in business. In some cases, according to investigators, the suspects have cashed in nearly $70,000 with check cashing businesses throughout the country.
