Christmas - The Season of Hope

The Season of Giving
The Season of Putting Others Before Self

Across our country, Christmas preparations are being made. Trees decorated, shopping, baking… All in order to share the love of God with our family and friends. People across the country are packing boxes to send to their heroes in Iraq, Afghanistan and around the world. People are reaching out to the children of our heroes to let them know we care.

This past weekend, the Snowball Express once again brought children of our fallen heroes to Disneyland for an enchanted weekend, filled with smiles and love. One of these families returned to find their home burglarized. Everything of “value” was gone. Messages went out and people across the United States are responding with their gifts of love, support and items to replace the “things” that are gone. None of this can replace the thing they miss most - their father and husband who laid down his life in Iraq.

This man, as is true for every man and woman in our military, put his country and our freedoms before that of himself and his family. I am sure that the family is feeling the love of our country by the outpouring of support to them as they are again in desperate need. Each of us - if we look beyond our own needs, can find the military families who need to feel that same love, support and hope in our own communities!

As we ponder these things, we must also ponder the gift we have received from our heroes! The gift of our freedom to worship as we please. The gift of our freedom to speak as we please. The precious gift of our freedom. This is one of those times where the gift deserves a response. This gift deserves to be honored and cherished.

This Christmas season finds the men and women of our military in desperate need. They are fighting a war - a war like none other before them and they need our help. They need our constant unwavering support. They need the tools and equipment to be successful in their mission. They need the funding for success.

Today, as you ponder the gifts you will present to your family and friends, take a few minutes to share your voice in support of our troops. Write a note to them - but take it a step further - show them how much you care by writing a letter to the Editor and/or writing/calling your congressional representative and ask that they support our troops. Ask that they respond to our military’s most precious gift by giving them the tools they need to be successful so that we can take a giant step closer to winning the War on Terror. Imagine the despair of our enemies when they realize we will not be divided or conquered - better yet - Imagine a country where free citizens speak with one voice, United for a Strong America!
