A Day In My Life

J.J. Jackson* | December 19, 2007

For some reason as of late I have been receiving a lot of hate mail complaining that I don’t know what it is life to work hard or even work two or three jobs to provide a better life for my family. So I thought that I would run down what my typical day is like. For an example I will use Monday December 3rd:

5:45AM: Woke up.
5:45-6:10AM: Turn on computer and begin making site updates. Started reading through 34 articles submitted for publication to thelandofthefee.net. Picked six that were quality enough to be published. Checked every email account and downloaded the 653 emails received since I had gone to bed. Downloaded digital news papers and websites to handheld for review during commute to day job.
6:10-6:15AM: Checked on business related to other websites and made sure all were functioning properly. Noted sales and revenue generated for each over the past 24hs.
6:15-6:25AM: Showered, brushed teeth, did my “doody”, shaved and got dressed.
6-25AM: Kissed wife and kid good-bye, grabbed my breakfast and started my commute to my day job.
6:25-7:15AM: During commute to my day job, read emails, made phone calls, followed up with business contacts for Land of the Free Studios, Inc. when stuck in traffic and not moving.
7:15-12:00PM: WORKED continuously!
12:00-12:15PM: Ducked out to grab lunch and brought it back to the office.
12:15-4:00PM: WORKED continuously!
4:00-5:00PM: Commuted home. Read more emails, began dictating blog posts and made more phone calls when traffic conditions allowed. Picked up KFC for dinner.
5:00-5:20PM: Arrived home luckily to find daughter snoozing and taking a nap and wife’s mother cleaning up. Went to home office and began transcribing blog posts for AmericanConservativeDaily.com
5:20-5:30PM: BREAK! Grabbed some chicken and mashed potatoes for dinner and ate it. Charlotte was still napping so went back up to home office.
5:30-6:30PM: Worked on more posts, read another 15 article submissions for thelandofthefree.net (rejecting 14 of them), and began work on some new designs for online t-shirt stores.
6:30PM: Wife arrived home.
6:30-6:45PM: Continued work on t-shirt designs and made small updates to other websites I own.
6:45-7:00PM: Grabbed muddy dog after chasing him around the house and put him in shower to rinse him off.
7:00-7:10PM: BREAK! Sat on couch with wife and daughter.
7:10-7:35PM: Back into office to work on article for the week. Reviewed options. Made decision and began research.
7:35-8:15PM: BREAK! Sat down to watch the Penguins play the Coyotes for a while. Played with Charlotte who giggled and smiled a lot while trying to stand up unsuccessfully.
8:15-9:00PM: Back into office. Wrote more posts, continued research for weekly article, finalized some of the designs for t-shirts, answered some personal email, answered a few business emails and trashed the rest.
9:00PM-10:00PM: Laid down in bed with book. Read while watching more of the Penguins game.
10:00PM: Turned off television and went to bed.

Now, anyone REALLY want to tell me that I don’t know about sacrifice and putting in hours at more than one job? Or are you still going to be one of those nutcases that are upset because I’ve learned how to use my brain and am not out digging ditches for 12 hours a day somehow thinking that what I do isn’t “real work”?

If you’re the later, believe me, you wouldn’t last a week on the schedule I keep. Much less the five years I have been doing it.

The hardest working man on the internet!

Well - maybe not quite. But I certainly wouldn’t have the energy to do this day after day after day after day!

Apparently Jeff has been getting some more of those “you don’t know what hard work is” emails from people who think they really do.

A lot of people don’t understand hard work because they’ve never done it. For all my mother isn’t, she did teach me to work hard for what I get - that there are no hand outs.

I got tired just looking at your day!

Your energy and commitment amaze me. The fact that you make money off your sites probably helps too :D
