Thanksgiving Prayer 2007

J.J. Jackson | November 22, 2007

As is tradition around here, I offer up this prayer for Thanksgiving. Use it if you like and are having trouble deciding what to say this year before you partake of the blessings of liberty…

Father in Heaven, we come before you this day to give thanks with humility before your glory for the blessings you have bestowed upon us. Today however we do not ask your blessing for ourselves. But rather we ask that you will see fit to bless those who cannot be with us this day. We ask that you see fit to bless those that are unable to be with their loved ones today because they have chosen of their free and noble will to bring hope to those who have known oppression overseas and fight against those that seek to enslave and kill in the name of their religion.

Lord, the men and women of our armed services deserve so much more than we give to them in terms of support and compensation and we pray that you will bring clarity to our elected leaders who would chose to play politics with their lives instead of honoring their noble sacrifices and standing firmly behind those men and women abroad. We pray that you will set straight the hearts of those that see our noble men and women as pawns for their own power in lieu of what is correct and good.

Please watch over the soldiers as they go about their daily duties and protect them with your grace. And for those which you have in your ultimate wisdom chosen to take from us, cradle them in your love and accept them unto the gates of Heaven. Soothe the hearts of their families left to carry on without their loved ones. Impart unto them peace and the knowledge that those that they loved have died for a noble cause to bring hope to those that once had little reason to expect that they could ever be free to partake of the unalienable rights that you have granted to all mankind.

We pray for the future this nation which, upon your previous blessings of Devine Providence, you have allowed to grow and become strong. We ask for your forgiveness even as we falter and often forget the laws that you have bestowed upon us and commanded to be followed. Forgive us Father as a nation for coveting that which others have. Forgive us Father as a nation for taking that which is not ours and stealing the work and profit from others for our own benefit and greed. Forgive us Father as a nation for taking life from those so innocent and unable to defend themselves for our own conveniences.

We come before you this day as humble servants. We ask that you give us the light which we need to be guided down the path of righteousness and truth. We ask that you will touch the hearts and minds of those that have sought to defy your laws and show them the error of their ways.

We pray to you this day, in the name of your son Jesus Christ, amen.

Laus Deo.
