Queen Hillary Will Magically Make Cars More Efficient

Demonstrating once again that liberals have no idea how things really work, Hillary discusses how she will magically make what she wants happen to happen through government mandates:

Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has unveiled her plan to address energy and climate issues if she were to be elected president in 2008, and not surprisingly, a major component is centered on automobiles and how to reduce oil consumption and emissions. The goal of Clinton and her team is to increase fuel economy standards to a fleet-wide CAFE average of 55 miles per gallon by 2030. The increases would be graduated from the current level of 25 mpg to 40 mpg in 2020, eventually reaching the 55 mpg level in 2030.

How? Mainly, it appears, though a combination of $20 billion in what Clinton is calling low-interest “Green Vehicle Bonds” that would enable automakers to retool plants to meet the aggressive goals, in tandem with the development and production of plug-in hybrid vehicles and alternative fuels.

In addition, Clinton would also:
• Invest $2 billion in research and development to improve battery technology
• Offer consumers tax credits of up to $10,000 for purchasing a plug-in hybrid
• Add 100,000 plug-in hybrids to the federal fleet by 2015
• Provide tax credits to aid automakers with retiree health care legacy costs

Uh, ok, besides my standard question of where in the Constitution anyone (from Congress to the President) is given the power to do such things and spend money in such a way, another obvious question presents itself. That question is since only Congress can pass laws and spend money, how would she do this as President if she can’t do it while in Congress?

Ah, yes … more vacuous promises which will gain her a few votes from the uninformed, the ignorant and the generally stupid who think government has such power. Didn’t we learn that command economies fail with the Soviet Union?
