Official 3rd Quarter Fundraising: Thompson Strong, Paul Drops to 5th
J.J. Jackson* | October 18, 2007
For the GOP Romney lead the candidates raising $18.4 million. Rudy came up with $11.6 million and McCain produced a squalid $5.7 million. According to opensecrets.org
Fred Thompson, who wasn’t even an official candidate for a sizable portion of the quarter raised the second most money with $12.8 million in contributions. Thompson’s strong showing pushed Ron Paul, despite raising nearly $5.3 million, down to fifth most popular among donors. This was so predictable that even I said this would happen once Fred Thompson entered the race.
Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee was the only other candidate to raise over $1 million for the quarter.
