Democrats Pimp “War Tax”

You might be inspired to admire liberals for their stick-to-itiveness but I wouldn’t. Now they want to propose a new tax to pay for a war that is already being paid for?

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Top House Democrats Tuesday proposed a “war surtax” to pay for the war in Iraq, a plan quickly condemned by Republicans and opposed by the House leadership.

The surtax would be “a percentage of your tax bill,” said House Appropriations Committee Chairman Dave Obey, D-Wisconsin. “And if you don’t like the cost, then shut down the war.”The measure — sponsored by Obey, Rep. Jack Murtha, D-Pennsylvania, and Jim McGovern, D-Massachusetts — would require low- and middle-income taxpayers to add 2 percent to their tax bill, while higher-income taxpayers would add 12 to 15 percent, Obey said.

The House Democratic leadership made it clear Wednesday that they had not signed off on the measure.
In a statement released Tuesday afternoon, House speaker Nancy Pelosi blasted President Bush for not asking Americans to sacrifice and “adding hundreds of billions of dollars in debt for future generations to repay.”

Nancy, MAYBE we could take that rant of yours seriously if you liberals weren’t constantly “adding hundreds of billions of dollars in debt for future generations to repay” in the form of unconstitutional redistribution of the wealth schemes like Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and so on.Just be honest Nancy. You love to tax people. You would tax us at 100% if we’d let you. But since we still have our guns those plans will just have to wait.

Let’s cut all the unconstitutional BULL CRAP spending and you’ll see how quickly this country runs a surplus. Then we can talk about cutting taxes. But then again, there isn’t much power for you when people aren’t clamoring at your feet for the dollars you and your fellow liberals have to hand out … unconstitutionally I might remind you.

President Bush made the choice to invade Iraq for various reasons that have changed over time. Each time many conservatives have supported Bush’s decision no matter what spin he manufactured to support it. This proposal for financial sacrifice via a war tax is an opportunity for conservatives to literally put their money where their mouth is. So rather than go into a typical reactionary conservative rant against taxes of any sort and blame it on the liberals , why not take a moment and consider the hypocrisy of voicing strong support for the war but balking at even the thought of paying an extra dime out of your pocket for it. Besides this is not a tax to support some lard butt welfare mom that you loath, according to our president this is a war that will keep your lard butt from one day praying to Allah.

    X

    Wrong.

The war is already Constitutionally funded under the just powers of the Constitution. We ALREADY pay taxes to support the war effort you bozo! How can you say that now this is an opportunity for us to do so when we are already doing it?

By your logic, then LIBERALS should have to pay all the taxes to support Social Security, Welfare, Food Stamps, Medicare, Medicaid and all the rest of the socialism they love and enjoy. Hey, that’s a good thought! But it will never be proposed.

As for your comments about how the reasons for the Iraq war have changed over time, perhaps you should go back and actually read things like President Bush’s State of the Union Speeches and his statements on Iraq as well as those by others dating back to the mid 1990’s to see that lots of valid reasons were given over that time and stop with the “the reasons have changed” bull.

People like you who are basically looking for an excuse to harm my sons who are in harms way make me sick. But I guess since both my sons are currently in war zones I am already paying a higher war “tax” than most. So that being the case I will kindly tell you to back off and Mr. Jackson to keep spreading the truth about what liberals want to do to destroy this country.

About the only thing I can add to that is a big hearty OOHRAH! from a vet who has bled for this country. I’m also certain that all the vets and active duties here are going to tend to agree with CD, Jeff and myself while disagreeing with you M. Sells.

Some people should engage their brain before speaking.

I like how M. Sells completely avoided the substance of this post about how liberals are always “adding hundreds of billions of dollars in debt for future generations to repay” and thus it is a bogus argument in order to show us all how silly he is.

I wish the lefties would stop playing politics with our lives and just support us. This “war tax” is just an excuse to 1) raise taxes which they love to do and 2) try and FORCE people to become against the war by hitting them with even more taxes to pay for it rather than cutting, as Mr. Jackson says, “all the unconstitutional BULL CRAP spending” and sticking with their limited powers.

We already pay for the war … and a whole lot else that we shouldn’t be. Carry on Mr. Jackson. You have the support of myself and many others in the military. Lots of guys on base read your site and love it!

Pelosi and the left are despicable. They don’t support the war and want to make sure no one else does either - even if it means harming those that are on the ground fighting it!

OOHRAH! To all that actually support this country, our constitution and the troops!

I already pay taxes to support the war (like income taxes) and am not complaining. It’s all the other uses for those taxes like providing “insurance” to others that bugs the crap out of me. But somehow we’ve arrived at a point where the constitution is turned on it’s head. Things listed in it as actual powers are shunned in favor of money being spent on all sorts of stuff not in it or ever envisioned by the founders to be in it.
