Cato Institute Off The Mark

In my tradition of “keeping it real”, as the youngsters say, I am going to take issue with the Cato Institute over something. Despite normally agreeing with them, it appears they have let politics cloud their judgment and rot their brains.
WASHINGTON — George W. Bush, despite all his recent bravado about being an apostle of small government and budget-slashing, is the biggest spending president since Lyndon B. Johnson. In fact, he’s arguably an even bigger spender than LBJ.“He’s a big government guy,” said Stephen Slivinski, the director of budget studies at Cato Institute, a libertarian research group.
The numbers are clear, credible and conclusive, added David Keating, the executive director of the Club for Growth, a budget-watchdog group. http://www.mcclatchydc.com/227/story/20767.html
The problem? Presidents don’t spend money. Congress spends money.
Ooops. Yes, the President can veto spending as well, but it is Congress that needs to take the heat for spending.
So how about we take a refresher on the Constitution eh?
