MUSKOGEE (AP) — The owner of a saddle company could face up to five years in prison after pleading guilty Tuesday to a felony charge arising from a 2006 federal raid on his factory in Sulphur.U.S. Magistrate Steven P. Shreder accepted Billy Cook’s guilty plea to furnishing false information about his employees to the commissioner of Social Security, U.S. Attorney Sheldon Sperling said in a news release.

Shreder ordered a presentence report, after which formal sentencing will occur.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents raided the Billy Cook Harness and Saddle Inc. factory in August 2006 and 51 illegal workers were either deported to Mexico or faced deportation proceedings.

“Agents also discovered that Billy Cook Harness and Saddle Inc. had failed to create and maintain mandatory immigration forms (I9) on each of the employees,” Sherling said. “Also during the investigation it was determined that the Social Security Administration and the Internal Revenue Service had previously notified Billy Cook Harness and Saddle Inc. that employee social security numbers which the company had reported to the SSA were not proper.”
