Deportation probable for man who assaulted woman

Carolyn Hileman | September 6, 2007

By Tim RuzekA 25-year-old man likely is facing deportation to Mexico after being sentenced Friday for assaulting an Austin woman in April. Jose Gonzalez, of Austin, received a one-year prison sentence delayed for up to five years of probation for pleading guilty in Mower District Court to an amended felony count of third-degree assault. Judge Donald E. Rysavy said probation will be unsupervised if Gonzalez is deported by federal immigration officials to Mexico. If he returns to the United States, Gonzalez will have to update his predatory-offender information with authorities.
