Iowa Straw Poll Round Up

Romney - 31%
Huckabee - 18.1%
Brownback - 15.3%
Tancredo - 13.7%
Paul - 9.1%
Tommy Thompson - 7.3%

Fred Thompson, Rudy Giuliani, Duncan Hunter, John McCain, and John Cox split the remaining vote.

Annalysis: These strawpolls are very unscientific because candidate bring their strongest political supporters to them in order to vote.  Giuliani deciding not to show up certainly had an effect on the overall numbers and did Fred Thompson not showing.  I doubt honestly that Huckabee, Brownback, Tancredo, Paul or Tommy Thompson will have these kinds of numbers in a general election where normal voters and not political junkies show up at the polls.  Actually, I take that back.  Huckabee MIGHT be able to muster that kind of support in an actually election.  But I am not holding my breath.

Of course I have already been getting the obligatory email from the Paulbots about how “well” Ron Paul did.  Yeah, 5th place … that’s REAL impressive.  Get 9% in an official vote and I’ll be impressed.

Read the site and you will find out he is not impressed with any of the GOP candidates, none of the Democratic candidates and if he is true to past form he is not too keen on the Libertarian Party and usually leans Constitutional except for a couple keep possitions. In the end he usually ends up voting for the best available.

I think the fact that I schleped Goldberg’s “Crazies to the left of me - Wimps to the right” pretty much sums it up except for me the “wimps” really aren’t to the right … escpecially when they dip into the unconstitutional earmarks :D

[...] said last week that if any of the current also-rans had any chance of making a move it would be Mike Huckabee. But 5% is nothing to write home [...]
