Immigration Crackdown Worries Local Hispanic Activist

With the total crackdown they’re going to do, it’s going to break our families apart,” says Tony Yapias, founder of the Utah Latino Project. Yapias says many local Hispanics are disappointed that President Bush is calling for the enforcement crackdown rather than waiting for Congress to pass full reform. The crackdown also includes tougher scrutiny for employers who hire undocumented workers. Yapias says the changes will have serious consequences on immigrants already established in Utah and contributing to the local economy: “If someone was just coming in new for the first time, the consequences of the crackdown may not be as severe as for someone who has a career, family, a job, a car payment and has established themselves in the community,” says Yapias. “It will create all kinds of ripple effects.”

On topic and intelligent comments are always welcome as are humorous observations. But liberal talking points with no basis in reality, off topic comments, spam and advertisements are not. Even though you may think you are an intelligent liberal, you probably are not. Keep this in mind as trolling is prohibited and will result in your comments not being approved and comments informing us how much we are a bunch of idiots because you say we are or espousing hate towards the truth are often moved directly to the official “I Hate You/You’re An Idiot” thread. Save us all the time and post there directly if you have a comment that would meet those criteria. Commenters reserve the right to mock claims about how liberal ideas, such as higher taxes, actually work and how conservative and right wingers, are NAZIs, racists, sexists, etc. and will do so with great regularity. Mr. Yapias refuses to admit that a federal lawbreaker is still a criminal no matter HOW LONG they have been here.
Those individuals are still breaking the law by refusing to respect our limitations on LEGAL immigration. Our system, ournation cannot accept every person from every country who wants to come here. Our state and municipal services should not be placed under any strain because of the criminal element coming here from south of the border as well.
25% of America’s prison population is comprised of Latin gang members to include the notorious MS 13.
Regardless of wether the illegal aliens are committing crimes or not each one of them is not respecting America’s laws as soon as they cross the border without our permission.
