Hispanics demand suspension at WLW

BY QUAN TRUONG | QTRUONG@ENQUIRER.COMLocal Hispanics demanded Wednesday that media giant Clear Channel suspend its local market manager, Chuck Fredrick, for two weeks without pay because of offensive billboards and radio spots by WLW-AM (700). The League of United Latin American Citizens on Wednesday released a proposal to Clear Channel, listing conditions it wants met before a boycott of the station is called off. The station agreed to a previous demand to establish an advisory board, but the league added more demands, including the Fredrick suspension and diversity training for WLW employees. Clear Channel’s WLW-AM has offended the league twice since May in incidents it called “blatant discrimination.”

Statement of Senator Craig

BOISE, IDAHO - Senator Craig made the following statement to Idaho at 2:30pm:”First, please let me apologize to my family, friends, staff, and fellow Idahoans for the cloud placed over Idaho. I did nothing wrong at the Minneapolis airport. I regret my decision to plead guilty and the sadness that decision has brought to my wife, family, friends, staff, and fellow Idahoans. For that I apologize.

“In June, I overreacted and made a poor decision. While I was not involved in any inappropriate conduct at the Minneapolis airport or anywhere else, I chose to plead guilty to a lesser charge in the hope of making it go away. I did not seek any counsel, either from an attorney, staff, friends, or family. That was a mistake, and I deeply regret it. Because of that, I have now retained counsel and I am asking my counsel to review this matter and to advise me on how to proceed.

“For a moment, I want to put my state of mind into context on June 11. For 8 months leading up to June, my family and I had been relentlessly and viciously harassed by the Idaho Statesman. If you’ve seen today’s paper, you know why. Let me be clear: I am not gay and never have been.

“Still, without a shred of truth or evidence to the contrary, the Statesman has engaged in this witch hunt. In pleading guilty, I overreacted in Minneapolis, because of the stress of the Idaho Statesman’s investigation and the rumors it has fueled around Idaho. Again, that overreaction was a mistake, and I apologize for my misjudgment. Furthermore, I should not have kept this arrest to myself, and should have told my family and friends about it. I wasn’t eager to share this failure, but I should have done so anyway.

“I love my wife, family, friends, staff, and Idaho. I love serving Idaho in Congress. Over the years, I have accomplished a lot for Idaho, and I hope Idahoans will allow me to continue to do that. There are still goals I would like to accomplish, and I believe I can still be an effective leader for Idaho. Next month, I will announce, as planned, whether or not I will seek reelection.

“As an elected official, I fully realize that my life is open for public criticism and scrutiny, and I take full responsibility for the mistake in judgment I made in attempting to handle this matter myself.

“It is clear, though, that through my actions I have brought a cloud over Idaho. For that, I ask the people of Idaho for their forgiveness.

“As I mentioned earlier, I have now retained counsel to examine this matter and I will make no further comment.”

Ed Rendell the Gun Grabber Tests Waters For Halting Gun Sales!

Take note because THIS is exactly how anti-gun, anti-armed citizen types operate:

Aug. 30 (Bloomberg) — Gun retailers in Pennsylvania can’t sell weapons at the start of the hunting season this weekend, and they’re not happy about it. Neither are Republican politicians. The shop owners complain that they will lose business because Governor Edward Rendell, a Democrat, decided to shut down the computers used to run criminal background checks on prospective gun buyers. The system will be off line for an upgrade from Sept. 2 through Sept. 5.

No rifles, shotguns or pistols can be sold during the three-day holiday weekend, from Saturday through Monday. The state’s dove and goose hunting season opens Saturday.

Step one: make gun sale dependent on a state run system. Step two: shut the system down for a couple days. How long until the next “shut down” and how long will that one last? A week? A month? A year? Forever?

Keep your eyes on this tactic which is a very “clever” way of halting gun sales to citizens who have a right to purchase guns.

Oregon union sues over higher immigration fees

ESMERALDA BERMUDEZAn Oregon labor union filed a lawsuit Wednesday against the federal agency tasked with processing immigration applications, saying it exorbitantly raised fees in July. Woodburn-based Northwest Treeplanters and Farmworkers United, a farmworker union, filed the suit in U.S. District Court in Portland along with the Service Employees International Union, the nation’s second-largest union. The suit names U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, saying the 100 percent fee-driven agency is plagued by long-standing mismanagement. The suit says that while fees have increased, the quality of service and wait times have not improved. “Throwing money at an agency that has a lot of internal structural problems is wasted money,” said Stephen Manning, a Portland immigration lawyer involved in the lawsuit.

15 miles of border fence done, with 685 left to go

By Richard Marosi
LOS ANGELES TIMESSAN DIEGO — Nearly a year after Congress passed legislation calling for the construction of 700 miles of new fencing along the U.S.-Mexico border, about 15 miles have been built, according to the Department of Homeland Security. Some Republicans and anti-illegal-immigration groups in recent days have criticized the lack of progress, but the Department of Homeland Security — which had committed to erecting 70 miles of fencing by Sept. 30 — says the project is back on track after being slowed by environmental concerns, contractor hiring and design issues. Workers are scheduled to break ground next week on a seven-mile stretch southwest of Tucson, Ariz.; work on the remainder of a 37-mile barrier outside Yuma, Ariz., is continuing as well. Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-El Cajon, a longtime fence backer, said in a letter to President Bush last week: “This lack of progress is unacceptable, especially when adequate funding is available to earnestly proceed with fence construction.”

Poverty Rate Drops … But What is Poverty?

WASHINGTON (AP) — The nation’s poverty rate dropped last year, the first significant decline since President Bush took office. The Census Bureau reported Tuesday that 36.5 million Americans, or 12.3 percent — were living in poverty last year. That’s down from 12.6 percent in 2005.The median household income was $48,200, a slight increase from the previous year. But the number of people without health insurance also increased, to 47 million. The last significant decline in the poverty rate came in 2000, during the Clinton administration. In 2005, the poverty rate dipped from 12.7 percent to 12.6 percent, but Census officials said that change was statistically insignificant.

But I think it is important to talk about what we in America call “poverty” since it isn’t really “poverty” for the most part. Those people living in mud huts in central Africa? Now THAT is REAL poverty!

So what is the “poverty” these 36.5 million Americans are supposedly living in?

We go back to the Heritage Foundation’s Report Understanding Poverty in America:

1.      46% of poor households in America own their own homes.  THEY OWN THEIR OWN HOMES!  I REPEAT THEY OWN THEIR OWN HOMES!

2.      Of all “poor” households in America, about 75% own a car and 30% own two or more cars!  I REPEAT 30% have MORE THAN ONE CAR!

3.      97% of such households have a color TV; 50% own two or more color televisions.   I REPEAT 50% HAVE MORE THAN ONE COLOR TV!

4.      Seventy-eight percent have a VCR or DVD player; 62 percent have cable or satellite TV reception; ALL OF WHICH ARE LUXURY ITEMS!

5.      25% (one quarter) of these homes have a BIG SCREEN TV!

6.      Microwave ovens exist in 73% of poor households (luxury item).  50% have a stereo (luxury item), and 33% own dishwasher (luxury item).  OUR POOR CAN AFFORD LUXURY ITEMS!

7.      “The typical poor American has more living space than the average individual living in Paris, London, Vienna, Athens, and other cities throughout Europe.”  In other words, from the data, the poor in America have about 116% of the housing space of the AVERAGE citizen of countries like the UK, France and Germany.  Our poor are better off than any other country’s AVERAGE citizen!

8.      76% of households classified as “poor” in America have air conditioning; a LUXURY item!

9.      26% have a cell phone (LUXURY ITEM!)

10.  24% have a computer (LUXURY ITEM!)

11.  Almost 100% (98.9% to be exact) have a refrigerator to help keep their food fresh longer!  This also means that they all have electricity!

12.  54% live in a single-family dwelling!

13.  Only 5% of the nation’s poor have more than one person per room in their house! 68% have less than half a person per room or two rooms per person or MORE!

14.  Only 4% of poor households in the United States have “severe physical problems” and half of those are attributed to “a shared bathroom, which occurs when occupants lack a bathroom and must share bathroom facilities with individuals in a neighboring unit.”

15.  A mere 2% of poor households have been listed as “Often Did Not Have Enough Food to Eat Due to Lack of Money” and 9% “Sometimes Did Not Have Enough Food to Eat Due to Lack of Money”.  Also note that “Hunger” is a subjective term.  I am hungry right now but it does not have anything to do with my financial state.

16.  70% claimed that they were able to meet all essential household expenses (rent, mortgage, utility, etc)
Summary Provided from Our Poor Are Not Poor By: J.J. Jackson (January 22, 2004)

Seems that we have a very non-poverty related definition of “poverty” doesn’t it? Seems as though this definition of what is and what is not “poverty” is nothing more than a convenience to justify the need to “do something” when those in poverty overwhelmingly own their own homes, own multiple cars and luxury items such televisions (including the big screen variety).

All these years and trillions of dollars on fighting “poverty” and yet we still have “poverty”. How convenient. Now we can call for increased taxes on the “rich” so that next time around “poverty” can be defined as three big screen television and missing one meal every year while keeping your electric refrigerator stocked with fresh meat from the market.

Funny that we have so many people making so little … especially when illegal immigrants are lining up and working for $100 or more a day. And we have families of four (with two related children) making under $20,444 a year? Someone isn’t trying very hard! Are Welfare and food stamps really that great?

Agents fired upon; in other incidents, 4 border crossers found dead

DAVID L. TEIBELFour U.S. Border Patrol agents were shot at Sunday night near the Mexican border, authorities said. In other incidents, four suspected illegal immigrants have been found dead west and southwest of Tucson since Thursday, authorities said. Illegal Aliens Create Host Of Problems For Red-Blooded Americans

Tennesseans, indeed all U.S. citizens, should stand up and applaud General Sessions Court Judge Bob Moon. I believe he spoke for all red-blooded Americans when he recently told illegal alien Bario Gomez that “Undesirables like you are not welcome in this country. You are a Latino terrorist who entered this country illegally and soon plotted significant personal injury and damage to the people and businesses in our community.” Gomez is the man charged with setting a fire in a downtown hotel and causing hundreds of people to be evacuated, including children. Following his arrest, Judge Moon justifiably raised his bail from the absurdly low $30,000 to $1 million. Anyone who has read the news, both locally and nationally in recent months, is aware of not only the criminal but the social, economic and medical problems illegal aliens from Latin America have brought to this nation.

The Left’s New Face of Evil?

Now that Alberto Gonzalez has stepped down due to constant haranguing from the left and legitimate complaints from the right the question is who will the left’s new face of evil for the Bush Administration be?
