Investors In Venezuela Deserve What They Get

May 30 (Bloomberg) — Venezuelan government debt tumbled in local markets as people took to the streets for a fifth day to protest President Hugo Chavez’s decision to pull the country’s most-watched television network off the air.Concern that protests will turn violent again led investors to sell dollar- and bolivar-denominated bonds in the local market and move money out of the country, traders said. Police have detained 182 people since May 27, the day that Chavez let the concession granted to Radio Caracas Television expire, Interior Minister Pedro Carreno said last night. “Clearly there is the perception among investors that things could go in any direction at this point,” said Garlina Requena, a trader with Caracas-based bank Corp Banca CA’s treasury desk, in a phone interview. “There’s uncertainty in the air.”

Ok, SERIOUS question here! What IDIOTS are still invested in Venezuela’s economy at this point? Comrade Chavez has been nationalizing the country for how many months now and you people are still invested in it?Did you ever take an economics course? Did you ever study history? Do you understand that every time one of these little communist utopias springs up the economy goes into the crapper?

So why does ANYONE still have ANY money invested there???

Deported immigrants return to demand back pay

A handful of workers caught in an immigration sweep across California and 16 other states and forced from the country earlier this year are now stepping forward to claim back wages they say their former employer owes them. The raids netted 23 workers from Orange County who were asked to leave the country. At least four of them have reentered the United States illegally and have since written to the federal Department of Labor to claim back wages. “We didn’t come back for a gift,” said one of the Orange County workers, who like the others asked not to be identified because he feared deportation. “We came back for what we worked for. Independent of how we came into this country, we were working hard, and we just want to be paid for what we did.”

Valerie Plame Still Needs to Explain

Sounds to me like she changed her story alright…sounds like perjury to me! String her up right along with Scooter Libby! Right libs? Right?
WASHINGTON — Former CIA officer Valerie Plame should explain “differences” in her various accounts of how her husband was sent to the African nation of Niger in 2002 to investigate reports Iraq was trying to buy uranium there, the vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee said.

Plame’s differing versions have furthered “misinformation” about the origins of the case that roiled Washington beginning in July 2003, said Sen. Kit Bond, R-Mo. Plame gave those accounts to the CIA’s inspector general, Senate investigators and a House committee in March.

A February 2002 CIA memo released last week as part of a study of pre-Iraq-war intelligence shows that Plame suggested her husband, former State Department official Joseph Wilson, for the Niger trip, Bond said. That “doesn’t square” with Plame’s March testimony in which she said an unnamed CIA colleague raised her husband’s name, Bond told USA TODAY.

Here are Plame’s three versions of how Wilson was sent to Niger, according to Bond:

•She told the CIA’s inspector general in 2003 or 2004 that she had suggested Wilson.

•Plame told Senate Intelligence Committee staffers in 2004 that she couldn’t remember whether she had suggested Wilson.

•She told the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee in March that an unidentified person in Vice President Cheney’s office asked a CIA colleague about the African uranium report in February 2002. A third officer, overhearing Plame and the colleague discussing this, suggested, “Well, why don’t we send Joe?” Plame told the committee.

CIA officials have been unable to verify Plame’s March version, Bond said. Paul Gimigliano, a CIA spokesman, said the “public record on the matter is extensive, and, at this point, I can’t add anything to it.”
What’s that? Oh you don’t really care about the truth? You just want a scalp? You just wanted a perjury trap to nail a “republican”?

Come on. Haven’t we learned anything after the catch and release of Sandy “are those classified documents in my pants?” Berger? People with a good enough story to tell are never held to account … as long as that story helps them “get” whomever they are trying to “get”.

Failing Our Future Immigrants

(The Nation) This column was written by the editors of the Nation.
——————————————————————————–
No one more urgently wants to see a comprehensive immigration reform package emerge from Congress than the 12 million undocumented immigrants who are living and working in this country today — the massive May Day marches of the past two years were a vivid testament to their fierce determination to win official recognition of their lives and rights. For them, the legislation currently on the table in the Senate holds much appeal. But any attempt to reform our immigration system must grapple with the flow of immigrants destined to arrive in the future. It is this second group that the Senate’s plan sells out.

For today’s undocumented population, the Senate’s “grand bargain” is far from perfect, but it is better in many respects than what they face now. They’ll have to scrounge up at least $5,000 to pay fines, and travel back to their home countries at least once, before becoming full legal residents. Still, for many undocumented immigrants longing to establish normal lives, the effort may prove worth it. The petty punishments they must endure along the path to citizenship were included as a sop to the right, but that increasingly vocal and restive minority still isn’t satisfied, decrying the plan as “amnesty” and threatening to sink the whole bill.

It’s for the immigrants of tomorrow, though, that the grand bargain is truly a raw deal — little more than indentured servitude. It would create an underclass of temporary workers with few rights, who must return to their home countries every two years with no hope of ever belonging here. Not only does this amount to an abuse of human rights; it’s also a surefire way to undercut American workers and their unions, providing employers with a cheap, vulnerable alternative workforce and placing downward pressure on the wages of U.S. workers. It’s not even clear, moreover, that it would work: Businesses that employ a low-wage labor force are complaining about the two-year limit and the red tape involved in complying with the law. The danger is that the bill could be amended somewhat to respond to those concerns, leaving the basic structure intact, which would be disastrous for both native and immigrant workers, pitted against each other in an ever-intensifying race to the bottom. The tragedy is that immigration reform could have been the occasion for improving the entire low-wage labor market, protecting the rights of all workers and preventing the exploitation of the undocumented that thrives in the shadows.

aaahhh Ya Gotta love CBS, their name says it all…

When Cowards Attack AND RUN!

Standing ramrod straight in dress blues and crisp khakis, the seven color guard members lifted their rifles for one of the most solemn moments of any Memorial Day parade, the 21-gun salute. Hundreds who had gathered to witness the tribute watched in silence.Just then, the eggs came flying. One glanced off a tree branch, and landed far away from the marchers in yesterday’s Memorial Day Parade in Rockland, said Ryan Durfee, a former Marine who was marching in the color guard. Another crashed 8 feet in front of the color guard.”Too close for comfort,” Durfee said last night….

Rockland police said last night that they arrested two 13-year-olds and charged them with disorderly conduct and assault with a dangerous weapon, a felony.

Poor babies. Hey you little chickens, if you’re going to attack someone have the courage to stick around rather than run away like the bed wetting snots you are.

But to charge them with “assualt with a dangerous weapon”? That’s a little overkill. Can’t we just let Mr. Durfee have them in a room alone for about an hour? They’ll think twice next time after that. I guarantee it!

American al-Qaida Member Issues Threat

CAIRO, Egypt (May 30) - An American member of al-Qaida warned President Bush on Tuesday to end U.S. involvement in all Muslim lands or face an attack worse than the Sept. 11 suicide assault, according to a new videotape.

Wearing a white robe and a turban, Adam Yehiye Gadahn, who also goes by the name Azzam al-Amriki, said al-Qaida would not negotiate on its demands.

“Your failure to heed our demands … means that you and your people will … experience things which will make you forget all about the horrors of September 11th , Afghanistan and Iraq and Virginia Tech ,” he said in the seven-minute video.

Gadahn, who has been charged in a U.S. treason indictment with aiding al-Qaida, spoke in English and the video carried Arabic subtitles. The video appeared on a Web site often used by Islamic militants and carried the logo of al-Qaida’s media wing, as-Sahab.

Gadahn, who appeared in an al-Qaida video last September in which he called on Americans to convert to Islam, demanded that Bush remove all U.S. military and spies from Islamic countries, free all Muslims from U.S. prisons and end support for Israel. He said a withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq alone would not satisify al-Qaida.

When Moonbats Attack, Part 1,956

NEW YORK — A radical group at a Bronx fundraiser confronted Rudolph Giuliani on Tuesday morning, accusing him of being one of the “criminals of 9/11.”…Afterward, a young woman claiming to be the relative of a Sept. 11, 2001, firefighter who died when the towers collapsed, asked Giuliani why he allegedly told Peter Jennings the towers would fall that day, but did not stop the rescue efforts of firefighters and police officers….

Giuliani replied by saying, “I didn’t realize the towers would collapse.” He later added, “No one that I know of had any idea they would implode. That was a complete surprise.”

This is the template. Keep pushing the same old non-facts like the towers were lined with explosives and rigged to collapse, there was no plane at the Pentagon, Atta is still alive, flight 93 landed in Cleveland, blah, blah, blah.

And when people deny it and evidence is asked for, just keep making the same talking points … just louder.

The little moonbat even reiterates the “fire doesn’t melt steel” b.s. by asking how come no other steel structure in history has ever collapsed because of fire. Of course we’ve seen another incident of this recently where a fuel fire burned through and collapsed a concrete and steel bridge deck. Which must be just another part of the “conspiracy” right? Trying to get everyone to believe that something that is impossible is possible?

I know, every now and again we get a barking moonbat “truther” here that tries to explain how fire doesn’t “melt steel” and how jet fuel doesn’t “burn hot enough”, etc. etc. But they all seem to vanish the second it is clear that I work with steel and the heating of steel every day and can debunk every talking point they have.

As long as conspiracies of thermite bombs, missiles and controlled demolitions about among the radical left the radical left is dangerous to all of our liberties. Because liberty cannot survive as long as their is no truth … and they don’t like the truth because it scares them.

That truth is that there are bad people called radical Islamists that hate us and will kill us and they have been coming after us since this nation was founded. And if you doubt that, just read up on the Barbary Pirates.

Christopher Hitchens Nearly Outsold in One Week By Reagan

Matt Drudge is reporting that ‘The Reagan Diaries’ outsold Al Gore’s ‘Assault on Reason’ (obviously his autobiography?) 49,626 to 49,621 units. As drudge points out that is just five copies.

But the news that I would like to focus on is that bitter crackpot Christopher Hitchens, who couldn’t argue his way out of a wet paper bag even if he had a machete to hack his way out, has sold only 58,490 copies (17,876 in the last week) of his latest book ‘God Is Not Great’.
**EXCLUSIVE**

Cheney Visitor Logs Not Recorded

WASHINGTON (May 29) - A lawyer for Vice President Dick Cheney told the Secret Service in September to eliminate data on who visited Cheney at his official residence, a newly disclosed letter states. The Sept. 13, 2006, letter from Cheney’s lawyer says logs for Cheney’s residence on the grounds of the Naval Observatory are subject to the Presidential Records Act.

Such a designation prevents the public from learning who visited the vice president.

The Justice Department filed the letter Friday in a lawsuit by a private group, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, seeking the identities of conservative religious leaders who visited Cheney at his official residence.

Was there this big a hassle when Reverend Jessie Jackson helped Clinton through the Monica problem?

Colorado State Patrol to begin helping enforce immigration laws

DENVER — A new unit of the Colorado State Patrol will help enforce federal immigration laws starting July 1 now that 22 troopers have completed a five-week training program. The troopers will do “limited immigration law enforcement” under an agreement with the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, the patrol said Tuesday in a written statement. The troopers will “identify and remove” illegal immigrants involved in criminal activity, the patrol said. The Colorado patrol is the 17th law enforcement agency nationwide with a working agreement with ICE. The federal agency has trained more than 270 officers under the program.
