Paging Rosie O’Donnell … Paging Rosie the Moonbat!

Posted By: J.J. Jackson* on April 30, 2007

Ok, so we all knew (at least those of us with more than two active brain cells) that Rosie was off the deep end when she proclaimed that the World Trade Center Collapse was the “first time” fire had ever melted steel. Of course, working in the steel industry as I do I immediately fired off an email to the powers that be at The View explaining heat and how it effects the strength of steel. That email went without response, probably because I even offered to come on the show and explain the truth in small words so even Rosie could understand it.

But now we have another incident of “fire” causing devastation to steel structures and I just want Rosie to make sure she takes note of it since it would be, by her insanity, only the “second” time this has happened.

(CBS/AP) Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger declared a state of emergency following the collapse of one of the San Francisco Bay area’s most traveled sections of freeway, as workers began clearing debris from a fiery accident that destroyed an important commuter link.

An elevated section of highway that carried motorists from the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge to a number of key freeways was destroyed early Sunday morning after flames from an overturned gasoline truck caused part of one overpass to melt and collapse onto another. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/04/30/national/main2740065.shtml

No word yet about if Karl Rove and Dick Cheney were seen at the scene of the crime placing explosives to bring the bridge down in order to discredit Rosie O’Donnell and other moonbats without a clue. But I’m sure someone will claim to have seen them in order to keep perpetrating the “Big Lie” that fire could alone not have brought down the World Trade Center.

But you know what? All those nimrods that watch The View and mindlessly applaud when Rosie makes statements like this will never learn about this incident (or others that are similar) or about steel and structures and go on believing what they want to believe any way.

The temp reported at the bridge from a GASOLINE fire was 2750 degrees.

    JET FUEL Maximum burning temperature: 980 °C (1796 °F)

    Joe,

Like I mentioned in the post above I work with steel. I know a lot about it.

Do you know at what temperature structural steel loses 90% of it’s strength? Do you know what temperature it loses 50%? Do you know what the loading was at the WTC above the fire? Do you even know what “loading” is? Do you know how easily steal bends and eventually collapses when it loses only a fraction of its strenght?

Probably not. But I’d love you to answer so you can see exactly how insignificant what you just posted would be to the argument.

Psst. FYI Joe, I wouldn’t try to go against Jeff on this one unless you want an ass whopping! He’s got books upon books upon books dealing with only the properties of steel much less all the books he has on stresses and loading and has run through the calculations as have many other people without an agenda of promoting a conspiracy theory.

So you should probably stand down.

Also another FYI for you Joe, but jet fuel was NOT the only thing burning inside the WTC. And when you account for things such as obvious chimney effects sucking in plenty of oxygen that temperature only goes up.

Ever watch a blacksmith use a bellows to add air to a fire to make it burn hotter?

Call me crazy, but don’t I remember learning about how the union army used to bend confederate railroad beams about trees after heating them on only rather small fires to make them unusable for reuse?

Seems to me a cut and dry case about how even a small fire weakens steel.

    Shammy,

You are refering to what are known as Sherman’s Neckties. Now, just to correct one difference, if I am not mistaken most railroad rails at the time were made of iron, not steel. But if you look at how both steel and iron react to temperature you will find that the temperatures where they lose strength and even melt are similar. In fact some steels (including many structural steels) actually get weaker at lower temperatures than iron.

But you are basically right. And it is a good historical event that you bring up because it illustrates exactly how weak metals like steel and iron become with only minor exposure to increased temperatures.

It is amazing how those that do not study history are ignorant of such basic events and lack knowledge that would make them question what they think they know. And it is even worse when people who think they know what they are talking about interject themselves into the debate.

Too many people still think that only once the steel liquified (i.e. melted) would the Towers have collapsed. But anyone (like I said before) with a basic civil engineering degree and no agenda to push can tell you that is not true.

There is a big push on the moonbat blogs to try and explain away this whole incident and justify how it doen’t relate to the conspiracy theories they have concocted about 9/11. But like you said Jeff, those of us that understand structures know it is just another fruitless effort targeted at those who will believe anything.

Never underestiate the determination of idiots (or conspiracy theorists) in large groups. After 9/11 there sure were a lot of engineers like Rosie that popped up. Unfortunately they were practicing without a liscense … or a brain.

Looks like you had a hit and runner … runs in posts something irrelivant and then gets out hoping that no one on the site can respond.
