Newt Gingrich – Another Pretender?
J.J. Jackson* | April 11, 2007
For all the things that I like about Newt Gingrich and his policy ideas, there are so many others that I (as a conservative) find objectionable. Take for example his so-called conservative approach to the whole issue of climate change.
Now first let me say that it is disheartening to hear Mr. Gingrich even concede to liberal egos that man-kind is having an effect on climate change. But the disappointment goes even further:
But the former GOP speaker said he believes the best way to solve the problem is to unleash the spirit of American entrepreneurship, not the power of government. That means using tax credits and other incentives to encourage the development of technology to reduce carbon emissions, rather than capping them by government decree.
“Regulation and litigation are the least effective methods of getting to solutions,” Gingrich said at the debate, which was sponsored by the John Brademas Center for the Study of Congress.
Sounds good so far right? But in the next breath he contradicts his own statement that regulation is not effective:
“Rewarding entrepreneurship and investing in science and technology — reshaping the market with incentives — are the fastest ways to get change,” he said.
In other words, we need regulation (i.e. through tax credits, government blessing, etc) to get solutions.
Please. Talk about double speak. But at least he is better than the Marxist John Kerry who we already know doesn’t like free markets, liberty and capitalism. But at least he admits it
“You can’t just sit there and say, ‘Oh, let the market respond,’” Kerry said. “That’s like saying, ‘Barry Bonds, go investigate steroids.’ Or like saying, ‘Enron, you take over the pensions for America.’ Not going to happen.”
A cap, he said, would provide the structure businesses would need to craft a response.
Kudos to Comrade Kerry for at least being honest about his beliefs.
The more I listen to Gingrich the more I am concerned that he his just another pretender to the conservative throne. Which is a shame. Because he does have some good ideas. But like McCain and so many other Republicans he just can’t stop looking to government for the solution.
He might be the best choice come 2008 available, but if he is all conservatives better be doubly vigilant with “our crook”.

I have to admit that I feel the same way about Newt. The man has some great ideas but I think he is still one of those conservatives that will look to the government rather than the people for solutions.
