Houston police seek gunmen in human smuggling-related shootout

Carolyn Hileman | April 20, 2007

HOUSTON Houston police are seeking as many as five gunmen who turned a freeway and intersection into the scene of a shootout. Authorities say the gunfire is suspected to involve one human smuggling gang trying to steal a load of illegal immigrants from a rival group. Investigators are waiting to examine video from red light cameras at the intersection. Yesterday’s shootout left one man dead. Authorities say 43-year-old Jose Amilcar Reyes Guidos was a suspected illegal immigrant from El Salvador.
