Elizabeth Edwards Scared Of The “Other America“?

J.J. Jackson* | April 9, 2007

There are “two Americas”. So the liberals tell us. And now Elizabeth Edwards has announced that she is scared of those that live in the America that isn’t occupied by liberals in their posh multi-million dollar estates. She is scared of people living off incomes less than that of her husband and who dare think that they actually have a right to own a gun and use it.

RALEIGH –
Elizabeth Edwards says she is scared of the “rabid, rabid Republican” who owns property across the street from her Orange County home — and she doesn’t want her kids going near the gun-toting neighbor.

Edwards, the wife of Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, particularly recalls the time neighbor Monty Johnson brought out a gun while chasing workers investigating a right of way near his property. The Edwards family has yet to meet Johnson in person.

But Johnson defended the occasion he brandished a gun, saying those on his land didn’t have the proper approval.

Edwards views Johnson as a “rabid, rabid Republican” who refuses to clean up his “slummy” property just to spite her family, whose lavish 28,000-square-foot estate is nearby on 102 wooded acres.

Johnson, 55, acknowledges his Republican roots. But he takes offense to the suggestion he has purposefully left his property, including an old garage he leases for use as a car shop, in dilapidated condition.

Johnson said he has lived his entire life on the property, which he said his family purchased before the Great Depression. He said he’s spent a lot of money to try and fix up the 42-acre tract.

“I have to budget. I have to live within my means,” Johnson said. “I don’t have millions of dollars to fix the place.”

Aw. Poor Elizabeth Edwards! Maybe she should learn that not everyone can have a silver foot in their ass like her.

Ok, now that I have picked on the idiocy of a silly liberal with cancer let all the hate begin from liberals … not addressing the actual situation of course!

Okay, he is not poor or close to poor. He owns at least 15 different pieces of property — raw acreage and rental property, presumably his home on Union Grove Church Rd or Ivy Rd — in the county in his name or in the name of his corporation, Woodmont Company Inc. He does not live on the property across from us, and he has not lived there at any time we have lived here.

When workers were hooking up power in the area, the Duke Power folks complained that he had threatened them with a gun when they were in the power easement right-of-way at the street in front of his property. Not trespassers, not a threat. Guys in a Duke Power truck with Duke Power jackets. I don’t mind his having a gun; I mind him waving it people who are actually do their job and doing it legally. They weren’t too happy with him either, by the way.
The Rudy sign is fine: it gives us a way to tell people where to turn.

And by the way, he complains that I have never waved hello to him; as far as I know, I have never laid eyes on him. Remember, he is not actually my neighbor. His tenants are my neighbors, and I have waved to them when our paths cross.

Just so you know, I posted here — and elsewhere — not because I expect a friendly ear, but because whether we agree or not, you deserve the truth.

First of all, I don’t believe for one second that you are really Elizabeth Edwards.

Second of all, I think we got the “truth” from the original article. Elizabeth Edwards fears the “rabid, rabid Republican” who doesn’t keep his property to her standards.

Like Jeff said (and in case you really are EE which I doubt), someone needs to get the silver foot out of her ass.

“First of all, I don’t believe for one second that you are really Elizabeth Edwards.” - PM

Nor do I. And like PinguMama said, we learned all we needed to about this from the article. And that is that Elizabeth Edwards fears the “rabid, rabid Republican”. But then again, we already knew that rabid, rabid liberals like her and John Edwards feared anything that smacked of liberty and freedom and anyone that is even slightly right of them.

What’s the next excuse going to be? That it is a “vast right wing conspiracy”? Give me a break! Is this what the progressive movement I have spent years supporting has regressed to?

    Arrrghhhh! I QUIT!

  5. PinguMama on April 9th, 2007 5:30 pm

    Huh? Tony?

  6. TonyTMan on April 9th, 2007 5:35 pm

You heard me. I quit. I’m done with this crap. I don’t know if this really is Elizabeth Edwards (and I doubt it is because I doubt that she would be out there poking around a non-major blog writing posts). But I guess something in me has just finally snapped no matter who the spin master is trying to rewrite what was said.

I’m don’t care any more and I guess I have to do so soul searching to figure out where to land but I know I can no longer be a liberal after all the fecal mater those that are liberals come here and spout.

HEY! I’ll have you know that this site gets major amounts of hits every day Tony :D You would be surprised at the number of hits from government servers in Washington DC I get every time I post something like this.

But aside from that I am glad to hear you have had an epiphany.

  8. RonniesRayGun on April 9th, 2007 5:44 pm

    OOHRAH!

Thanks Ms. Edwards … or who ever you are! You’ve done in one comment what we’ve been trying to do for years! You converted Tony from the dark side!

  9. Sgt. Shammy on April 9th, 2007 5:52 pm

OOHRAH indeed brother Ron! OOHRAH indeed!

I knew Tony would eventually see the light. He’s far too intelligent …

  10. Jo on April 9th, 2007 5:57 pm

Cancer patient or not, I hit her hard in my post about the same topic. Good job!!

  11. Lt. Krammer on April 9th, 2007 6:00 pm

Come on … Tony bleeds Soviet Red. Don’t fall for it.

As for Elizabeth here, too bad John’s “bounce” due to the press conference (you know the one I mean) will soon fade as his policies become more and more exposed and scrutinized.

Now, Rubbern, calm down. I already had a post when her cancer was announced that I prayed for her health. But I also said that such prayer would not make her or her husband immune from criticism when they deserved it.

    Now go take a downer.

  14. TonyTMan on April 9th, 2007 6:23 pm

See? Rubbern is EXACTLY what I am talking about! All these people do is come here and spin and spin and spin what they say or shout like crazed banshees.

ROFL! Rubbern one of Teddy Kennedy’s interns perhaps? I only say that because he sounds like he’s been into the Chivas Regal.

  16. RedTornado on April 9th, 2007 6:46 pm

    Dear Elizabeth Edwards:

While I know I speak for everyone here that we hope you have a recovery from your cancer, I also know I speak for most everyone here that we do not want either you or your husband anywhere near the oval office with your left wing policies.

  17. J.J. Jackson on April 9th, 2007 6:50 pm

Please remember that you can now buy conservative offsets to help combat liberals like Elizabeth and John Edwards.

My baby will greatly appreciate it. :D

  18. Elizabeth Edwards on April 9th, 2007 9:40 pm

Red Tornado - Thank you for your good wishes on my health. And I honestly do not begrudge your having a different political perspective than I have. It says good things about you that you can wish me well despite those differences.

  19. ForthlyRight on April 10th, 2007 5:01 am

Dear Elizabeth Edwards, or whomever you are:

You said “Okay, he is not poor or close to poor. He owns at least 15 different pieces of property”.

No one ever said he was “poor”. The man said he was on a “budget”. Now as someone who myself owns about 18 properties I can tell you (and you probably need to be educated about real estate) that after all the costs involved I net about $200 per property each month. That’s a little over $40,000 per year.

Not poor, but certainly no where in the range where I, like the rabid Republican you seem to have a wicked tongue for, have to budget my expenses as well.

If you really are Elizabeth Edwards I would suggest stopping while you are behind. All you are doing when you open your mouth is digging a deeper hole. The attempt at damage control is pathetic.

  20. ForthlyRight on April 10th, 2007 5:09 am

“Not poor, but certainly no where in the range where I, like the rabid Republican you seem to have a wicked tongue for, have to budget my expenses as well.”

That should read “Not poor, but certainly no where in the range where I, like the rabid Republican you seem to have a wicked tongue for, DO NOT have to would not have to worry about my expenses.”

    Sorry.

  21. SlummyLord on April 10th, 2007 4:12 pm

Forgive my mockery of Elizabeth Edwards with my tongue in cheek handle. But I would like to follow-up and expand on what FourthlyRight said.

I too am a landlord. I own two properties (total of 36 revenue generating units). On a good month I get about $150 per unit out. On a typical month it is more like $75 to $100 each. And there is always a couple bad months out of the year where I get $50 or less per unit over all. I pocketed (like FourthylyRight) only a little under $40,000 dollars last year.

An average unit I rent goes for about $750 a month for the double bedroom (22) units and $550 a month for the single bedroom units (14). My total gross revenue last year was about $280,000 off all of these units. But when you consider I have to pay taxes, for renovations, for a full time cleaning and maintenance crew for each unit, and two on site building managers just for starters, that quarter of a million dollars off of 36 units doesn’t go very far.

In fact I know very few people who are getting rich off real estate. It takes a ton of properties to gross any substantial amount of money. Some days it isn’t worth it. I could sell both the buildings for about $300,000 each and believe me I have considered it.

I too have tenants that don’t like me. All of us landlords do. I say this to address your complaint about how his tenants were not all too happy with him as if to show that you can sympathize with the little people against the evil and vile gun toting “Republican”.

You know why they “hate” me? They hate me because (and these are really their worst complaints):

    1) I wouldn’t buy a stove/oven combo for one tenant because she doesn’t like the new ones I bought three years ago. Why? Because they are white … and she wants stainless steel which would cost 4x as much. When I told her to buy it herself she got upset and even filed a complaint with the housing department! Thankfully our local officials laughed at her. So to get even she spray painted the walls of her unit with gold spray paint (against the lease) and kicked and screamed when she was evicted.
    2) I would’t grant them another month to pay their back rent (when they are already 7 months behind) and called the police to evict another woman from her apartment which I OWN! How EVIL! So to get even this woman decided to start breaking windows of my car (a late model Oldsmobile that I would replace if I had the money FYI). So when I staked out the parking lot one night and made a citizen’s arrest at gun point she claimed that I assaulted her. She got laughed out of court.
    3) I wouldn’t replace the carpet in an apartment because one of the tenant’s dogs uses his living room for a bathroom even when the lease clearly states that tenants are responsible for fixing all damage caused by their pets themselves. He also called the housing department to complain and demand that I fix the damage he is obligated to fix under his contract with his own signature on it. Housing dept. refused his complaint and he proceeded to wreck his unit and I evicted him. At which point he filed another complaint for wrongful termination of contract.
    4) I called the cops to have the son of one tenant arrested because while his parents were on vacation he was selling dope out of the unit. The son was caught red handed but the parents said that I was a racist (because they were a black family) and I was harassed for two weeks by their family and friends until the cops put an end to that and had them evicted.

I could go on and on about the senseless reasons why I am a “hated” slum lord to some of my tenants. But the truth is they are free to leave any time they want when their contracts end. And I only let tenants sign one year leases. Each of them also freely signed the agreement.

So forgive me if I still have no sympathy for you and your attempt to dress up your comments and continue to try to paint this man as a evil whipping boy for your own political needs.

  22. FIIGTS on April 11th, 2007 7:05 pm

Hey SlummyLord, I sold all of my properties (five total with 152 units) three years ago because I got sick and tired to dealing with little liberal crumb crunchers who thought that they (not me) owned the buildings and could make any demands their little bleeding hearts desired. The apartments all had been updated within the last five years and were top of the line. But that wasn’t good enough for some of them.

It also wasn’t good enough that while average 2-bed room apartments in the area were going for $1,000 a month I was charging only about $800 either.

I took the $2.3 million a developer offered and split the scene because it was infinitely better than pocketing only $76k a year (if lucky).

I had some good tenants. But the vast majority were pains in the butt and other areas to boot.

Now they are all going to have to find somewhere new to live. Because the developer is going demolish the apartments and put up a nice new strip mall. Guess they should have treated me a little better.

Amazing how much they whined and complained as soon as they caught wind of the deal. The darn little Marxists. Some even claimed I didn’t have the right to “kick them out” (huh?). My property folks. Don’t like it? Find somewhere else to live.
