Iraq and the U.S. servicemen and women serving there are still nothing but political footballs for the liberal Democrats in Congress. They have reached an agreement to officially push forward with their attempts to strip the President of his constitutional duties as Commander in Chief and reassign them to Congress.

WASHINGTON, April 24 — President Bush said today that he was disappointed in Congressional Democrats for making “a political statement” with an Iraq war-spending bill, and he said their version of the legislation would harm the United States and its fighting men and women.

Skip to next paragraph Mr. Bush took exception to parts of the bill that call for American troops to begin withdrawing from Iraq by Oct. 1, and other limits on the conduct of military operations there.
“They know I’m going to veto a bill containing these provisions, and they know that my veto will be sustained,” Mr. Bush said of the Democrats in remarks on the White House lawn before flying to New York City. “But instead of fashioning a bill I could sign, the Democratic leaders chose to further delay funding our troops, and they chose to make a political statement.”

The president was reacting to the agreement reached by the Democrats on Monday to ignore Mr. Bush’s veto threat and send him a $124 billion supplementary war-spending bill with a timetable for withdrawal.

Ok, I’m still not apparently getting through to all you lefties. Two roles; that’s what Congress has with regards to war. They declare it. They fund it. They do not fight it. They do not dictate troop movements. They do nothing else.

Ultimately all this bill is is a hope for the Democrats that if they can help lose the war they will be able to take full credit for it. If that is what they want, so be it. Like the old saying goes; you brake it, you bought it.
