Immigration raids: Feds say local sweep is ‘ongoing’

A raid by federal agents that sparked panic in Santa Fe’s immigrant community last week and resulted in 30 arrests is over for now, but an immigration official said agents could be back in town anytime. “This is an ongoing, daily effort,” said Leticia Zamarripa, a spokeswoman for Immigration and Customs Enforcement in El Paso. “This was not a one-time deal.” The raid angered officials in a city known for its pro-immigrant stance. Mayor David Coss called the sweep “an attack on our town” and said the city was still trying to piece together what happened. That included trying to figure out who was arrested and deported. “I don’t even know if it’s possible to find out who got deported,” Coss said at a city Immigration Committee meeting Tuesday night. “Who was in our community last week who is missing now?” But that information might be hard to learn, because ICE has a policy of not revealing the identities of the immigrants they arrest and deport. The Voice

hmmm… How could it be an “attack on [your] town” if you don’t even know who was deported and can’t figure it out? Sound’s like a drain on your community to me.
