Eagle’s Soar But Sheehan Flops

It was a flop a year in the making. What was supposed to be a huge anti-war protest in Washington DC lead by the fellow travelers of Cindy Sheehan, International Answer and the Workers World Party turned out to be a dud as only about 5,000 to 8,000 rabid leftists found their way to the nation’s capitol. But even most of that meager number didn’t stay long, perhaps off to partake of their favorite drug of choice?

A highly promoted protest against U.S. involvement in Iraq during the weekend received an enormous amount of media coverage, despite the fact that, according to the Associated Press, only about 1,000 people remained present for it after the first hour.

However what was called the “Gathering of Eagles”, a counter protest to the Marxists and designed to protect national monuments from the defacing that often occurs during these “peace” protests, brought to town some 25,000 to 30,000 people.

ANSWER had a year to plan their well-publicized event and were hoping for around 100,000. They actually drew about 5,000-10,000, according to various news reports today. The Gathering of Eagles, on the other hand, had about six weeks to plan an unprecedented response - and with no advertising, no publicity, no celebrity or political endorsement, no news coverage, and no big money, we had about 30,000 boots on the ground!

The volunteers poured themselves into this historic event, and all of you who attended gave so much to be there. I’ll stop here and let your words speak for themselves.

Huh. Guess all the leftists are just fair weather ideologues? A little cold weather and they can’t be bothered to show up unless the nanny state provides them with heavy parkas and nice heated areas to protest? Or maybe they are just finally blowing themselves out and showing the ADD that often accompanies those on the left.
