ACLU and I Agree … But For Different Reasons

No, don’t think that I’ve gone all Liberal on you when you read this. But the fact is the ACLU and I agree on a law that would regulate pornography on the internet.

The law was promoted as a means to help keep the vile material out of the hands of children.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A U.S. federal court ruled on Thursday that a 1998 law designed to block children from viewing Internet pornography violates the U.S. Constitution’s free speech protections.

The ruling sided with a challenge brought by the American Civil Liberties Union, which had argued that the provisions of the Child Online Protection Act were too restrictive.

But the problem is that the federal government doesn’t have this authority and for me to support it would mean I would have to say to Hell with the Constitution. Which is why I am against the law. The ACLU is against it for the same reason they are against most things; they see it as a way to attack American society. Sure they claim that they are defending it on “free speech” grounds but the fact is they like to perpetuate anything that is vile and disgusting as a means of continuing to erode decency and goodness.

At some point people (and especially parents) need to take responsibility instead of looking to the government to save them and their children from every day life.
