University of Illinois Folds To Liberals

The NCAA doesn’t like showing American Indians and symbols to be proud of and as fierce warriors. That is the only potential reason for the idiotic ruling they continue to enforce concerning the use of American Indian mascots.
URBANA, Ill. (AP) — The University of Illinois‘ American Indian mascot, Chief Illiniwek, will no longer perform at athletic events at the school’s main campus after Wednesday — the last men’s home game of the season, officials said.
The move makes the school eligible to host postseason NCAA championship events.
Last year, the NCAA deemed Illiniwek — portrayed by buckskin-clad students who dance at home football and basketball games and other athletic events — an offensive use of American Indian imagery and barred the university from hosting postseason events.
You know, the more this goes on the more I am convinced that this decision is based in some sort of suppressed racism deep within the liberal psyche. Think about it. The Fighting Irish – ok because it shows a strong white man. Chief Illiniwek – not ok because it shows a strong man with non-white skin.
Likewise you rarely hear liberal busybodies complain about white mascots in pro sports either. Minnesota Vikings – ok because again it is a strong white man. Washington Redskins – again NOT ok because it shows a strong man with non-white skin.
These people need some serious time on the “couch”.

“You know, the more this goes on the more I am convinced that this decision is based in some sort of suppressed racism deep within the liberal psyche.”
I think the same things at times…ok all the times … but still
“The NCAA doesn’t like showing American Indians and symbols to be proud of and as fierce warriors. That is the only potential reason for the idiotic ruling they continue to enforce concerning the use of American Indian mascots.”
Or… just maybe it’s out of respect that they are finally doing this: “the Peoria Tribe, the direct descendants of a group of tribes known as the Illiniwek or the Illini, do object to Chief Illiniwek and have asked the University of Illinois to stop using what they consider to be a degrading racial stereotype.” - ELIZABETH BRACKET
Why might the tribe see it as racist? “It’s reducing Indians to feathers, buckskin, beads. That’s not what our culture is about. It’s just narrowing in on one very small aspect of our culture, and in the Indian culture dancing has never been used solely for entertainment value. It’s always had religious, other connotations.”- SHANNON KOBE
Now, I’m sure you’ll refuse to understand this, that’s expected. But if you care to realize the overall native population of what would become the US was reduced from 10,000,000 (a low estimate, it might be as high as 50,000,000 of the native population at the time of the founding of Jamestown) to around 250,000 by 1890; you’re just advertising your general ignorance. Not to mention the Peoria by and large don’t live in Illinois anymore, can anyone guess why that is?

Hey ammonius, I suggest that before you make statements you should know the person you are talking to. As someone that that 1/16th Illini I find absolutely no offense at this. But I am sure YOU (as in ammonius) refuse to understand that and are more interested in making goofy comments.
Sorry to force you to depart from your talking points but you have to do better than this (or any of your previous posts) around here and making comments like this will continue to make you look silly.
As for you Ms. Kobe, she’s an over sensitive panzy.
Hey, ammonius you are aware that Ronnie has American Indian heritage right?
Oops, never mind. Looks like Ron is faster to the draw than I am and already put you in your place.
I wonder how many more times you are going to continue to step in it here. You seem to be making a habit of it.
So I get this email from my friend Ron, and come here and now I will say my piece. I’m not decended from the tribes in question here but I am 1/8th Cherokee. I also find no offense at the use of early Americans as mascots and am also a little struck silly by how the left constantly trys to remove symbols of us as proud warriors.
I’m proud of my heritage. I’m even more proud when teams chose to make us their mascot as well.
I agree with the author of the origninal post and not with this other guy.
Hey Ing/Carey.
I guess that means my email to the mailing list made it to someone tonight. ammonius will probably be stunned if even a fraction of the people on the list respond considering they are all people of American Indian decent and I would be very surprised if any of them agree with his possition.
I’m with you ron. Good to finally hear from you after all these months of not.
As a decendent of the Lenni Lenape of Deleware I find people like ammonius and those that complain about my ancestors as mascots disgusting.
“You know, the more this goes on the more I am convinced that this decision is based in some sort of suppressed racism deep within the liberal psyche.”
Hey I never really thought about it like that but there might be something to it.
Oohrah fellow Marine! I’m with you guys on this one! My ancestors would be darn proud to see Americans honoring them with strong mascots that relay our fighting spirit!
Shannon Kobe doesn’t speak for me or anyone that I know.
“I guess that means my email to the mailing list made it to someone tonight.” - RRG
ROFL! I should have known that you would have a ready made army to attack with.
Can I say once more for the record of anyone that might come here from Ronnie’s posse, that while I am a “liberal” I find ammonius and his constant bantering and idiocy obnoxious as well?
Ooohrah! With you.
And just for the record I have both Cree and Pomo in me for those that don’t know who I am.
“Can I say once more for the record of anyone that might come here from Ronnie’s posse, that while I am a “liberal” I find ammonius and his constant bantering and idiocy obnoxious as well?”
????
Ron? Friend or foe?
Sig,
Tony’s friend. Misguided politically .. but friend.
LOL! Leave it to you Ron to actually have a mailing list full of people with American Indian blood lines.
I was begining to wonder what our newest talking point reading liberal (ammonius) had been doing as of late. I guess ammonius got lonely and needed some attention tonight.
So all of the folks on here with fractional native ancestry thanks for speaking up. I’m fractionally Cherokee as well (for “people like me”), I went to a NCAA school that didn’t go to hell after they changed their mascot, and I’m a friend and neighbor of the Onondaga Nation.
If your so proud of your ancestry, I suggest contacting your tribal government, tell them about your ancestry, talk to them about this issue; tell them who you are (and your ancestry) and how proud you are of Chief Wahoo. It’s sort of like contacting your representative, which I’m sure were all used to. Go ahead, tell those on the reservation to stop trying to ruin all of your fun.
I am basically full indian except for my mother. She was the first non-ameican indian in my bloodline except by great-great-great-grandfather.
I love it when schools use my ancestors. I am damn proud of it.
The University of Illinois and amm can kiss my ass.
For some of the people that came here who haven’t been regular readers sometimes ammonius’ posts need translation. Like this one.
I’ve provided this service in the past and will do so again here:
“Damn, I thought that I had found out just how racists you white evil conservatives are and that you didn’t understand the plight of hte poor American Indians. But I didn’t realize that the person I was responding to actually might be not what I thought he was and now I have to kind of look like I am not being as mean as I really, really wish that I could be to try and make a point that cannot be made.”
One of these days ammonius is going to learn that it is not in his best interest to run around assuming things.
Yea, and if we added together the collective Native blood of those racists we might have one whole mixed tribe native.
Do you check “Native American” when asked “race”? We’re you ever in Boston before 2005 (if you were you were breaking the law)? Do you live on a reservation? Do you attend tribal functions, know who your tribal leaders are, participate in tribal government?
Anyway, if you want the issues spelled out to you: http://www.iwchildren.org/barb.htm
but I’m sure you all know the positions and actively choose bigotry.
ammonius,
I find your comments more and more distasteful with every post. As someone with Seminole blood in my past I find your defaulting to the compaint that anyone who does not agree with you as a “bigot” pathetic.
As someone that knows the names that have posted here in response to both you and and the U of I I chose to respond.
Most of us don’t give a damn about these so-called tribes and their leaders and what they think. Many of them believe that they are the mighty keepers of the heritage of Americans that were here before Columbus. The sad truth is that often they are arrogant and teach little about the ways of my ancestors.
They do not speak for a great many of those of us with “native” American blood in our veins because we are not such but rather Americans.
I find that the only potential “bigot” here is you as you are simply not willing to admit that there are a vast number of us that will not follow your line or the line of those that believe they are the keepers of our heritage.
Ah yes, when they can’t handle the opinions of others they always resort to the “you’re a bigot” line. But I’m sure that like in the other thread where you tried this and then backtacked after being confronted you probably didn’t really say or mean it even though you said and meant it right?
I know it is difficult for you to deal with people that disagree with you ammonius but could you at least try? Or are the liberal talking points all you know how to read?
You’ll get further if you stop pulling a Howard Dean.
The only bigotry I sense around here is coming from you ammonius. Bigotry against conservatives. Bigotry against those of us with American Indian heritage in our blood who like seeing our people portrayed as strong. Bigotry against anyone that is proud of their heritage and enjoys seeing their ancestors used as proud symbols. Bigotry towards anyone that will not accept the opinions of a minority that do not speak for a majority. Bigotry against anyone that disagrees with ammonius basically.
It’s so predictable. ammonius complains about name calling yet hurls unsubstantiated names and definitions about at will to try and bolster a possition that no one else here agrees with.
So he defaults to the same old same old. He defaults to his own bigotry.
Ok ammonius you lost me. How exactly is a group of people proud of their ancestry saying that they enjoy seeing their people protrayed as brave warriors “bigotry”?
Or is this just another one of your self initiated delusions?
Bigot: Anyone that disagrees with a liberal.
Heaven forbid that people are proud of their heritage and not take offense when someone tells them that they should. I see ammonius is back to his old tricks.
These people that claim to be the holders of my native American heritage continue to embarrass me. As someone with a lot of Illini blood in my veins and who considers myself American (not native American) I loved seeing the Univ. of Illinois and their mascot portraying the warrior heritage from which I came. Now I see yet another reason why I am proud to not associate myself with the “tribes” that claim to be the inheritors of my bloodline’s traditions.
I think Mr. Jackson had it right on. I do not see people of Nordic decent complaining about a goofy man parading around in purple fur and a big horned hat. I do not see people of Irish decent moaning about how Notre Damn has a cartoony Leprechaun as a mascot. I do however see a small group of people getting worked up about native Americans being used however.
I have my theories on why this is having been around many people with strong native blood (like my father and grandmother) all my life. We have always been proud that modern day Americans embraced our strength. But what I believe is that there are those that are still upset that their culture was taken over by another and superior culture from another continent and to this day resent that fact. Thus they are just trying to lash out against the culture which they fell to. They pretend to be victims instead of reveling in the joy of having their heritage celebrated.
Who cares if it is not historically 100% accurate or whatever. There were a lot of things my ancestors did which we should not be proud of.
It’s sad and quite seriously it is pathetic to see people acting like this.
