Obama Already Flip Flopping

J.J. Jackson* | February 14, 2007

Looks like Obama has made the first flip flop of his early presidential campaign.

NASHUA, N.H. — Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is apologizing for saying the lives of the more than 3,000 U.S. troops killed in the Iraq war were “wasted.”

During his first campaign trip this weekend, the Illinois senator told a crowd in Iowa: “We now have spent $400 billion and have seen over 3,000 lives of the bravest young Americans wasted.”

He immediately apologized on Sunday, saying the remark was “a slip of the tongue.”

Slip of the tongue … botched joke … hey what’s the difference right? Why apologize Mr. Obama? Sure you claim not to have meant it and that you “misspoke” but if that is true why do you (like so many other liberals) continue to talk about the troops and their mission as such a waste of time and with such disdain?

Yeah, yeah, I know the old liberal talking point that you “support the troops but not the mission.” But that simply doesn’t wash. The “mission” is what the “troops” are there for in the first place. You can’t support one and not the other. That is, unless you are talking to a group of liberals in full fledged justification mode.

    So we’ve got:
“I think PinguMama said it best in another thread … something about Romney just doesn’t feel right.” So let’s just call him Gay-Rights-Romney

And: “Watch out for that “bad money” McCain.” That makes Bad-Money-McCain

    And of course, gun-control-Giuliani

And we obviously know how you feel about Obama, Hillary, and Edwards’ staff… So who looks good in the candidate field for Conservatives at this point? Gingrich hasn’t entered yet, but are folks hoping/waiting for him to do so?

Oh, BTW, to get to your post. you wrote, “I know the old liberal talking point that you “support the troops but not the mission.” But that simply doesn’t wash. The “mission” is what the “troops” are there for in the first place. You can’t support one and not the other.”

Just today, President Bush was asked:

“Do you have to support the war, to support the warrior”?

    Bush replied:
“no… I think you can be against my position and support the troops… can somebody say we disagree with your tactics, our strategy, and support the military, absolutely.”

Mr. Bush is perfectly capable of understanding this “logic”, I wonder why it is so difficult for other conservatives.

“Mr. Bush is perfectly capable of understanding this “logic”, I wonder why it is so difficult for other conservatives.”

I’ll speak as a veteran who lived through this same crap and justification by the left in Vietnam and as someone that has one son in Iraq right now and another who has served in Afghanistan. The answer is what President Bush said one can do is dramatically different than what liberals are actually doing.

    Your initial premise is incorrect.

They are not just “disagreeing”. They are calling our soldiers NAZIs and many other such names while actively working against this country. They are giving aid and comfort to the enemy by the fevered pitch with which they continually decry our soldiers and their mission.

Now, as for President Bush actually being a “conservative” that is an issue for debate. The man has signed Campaign Finance Reform (which infringes on the free speech rights of all Americans), expanded socialist programs (medicare prescription drugs), etc. Not very “conservative”.

But it was a nice try to make a point on your part. I guess.

    Ronnie,

“They are not just “disagreeing”. They are calling our soldiers NAZIs and many other such names while actively working against this country.”

Well to get back to the topic at hand, namely the Democratic candidates, specifically Obama. When has he referred to the troops as NAZIs? I really would be interested to hear if any Democratic elected official has made such a statement regarding the fighting men and women in Iraq. I am sure there are some radical-anti-ANY-use-of-military radicals who would scream such non-sense, but has Obama, Hillary, or Edwards?

See ammonius, this is the same thing that got you in trouble in the other thread. You make statements that are not supported by the facts.

He said “NAZIs and and many other such names while actively working against this country”.

I know I can cite instances beyond Obama’s comments about their work and sacrifice being “wasted”. There was Senator Dick Dubin who used the words NAZIs, gulag and Pol Pot while refering to the actions of our troops and then there was John Kerry’s crack about how dumb people get “stuck” going to Iraq. Then there was Kennedy’s wise crack about our soliders being “torturers”.

Even I know about these constant mishaps where elected Democrat party leaders have insulted our troops as does anyone else that pays attention.

It’s dispicable to treat our soldiers to this kind of verbal abuse. So let’s not play games and certainly let’s not play dumb.

ammonius, don’t insult me by questioning my comments that are easily verifiable with a simple web serch.

Thanks Tony for the back up. If I’d have been the first to respond it wouldn’t have been nice.

No problem man. He’s just trying to push buttons.
