Kicking Ass And Taking Names

You make yourself safe by killing those that want to kill you before they kill you. Anyone that thinks that terrorists holed up in Iraq are not a threat have not learned the lessons of what a small group of people from a foreign land can do. It only takes about a dozen, for example, to kill nearly 3,000 people by hijacking planes.
The time for talking is over when the shooting starts and it is instead time to initiate the doctrine of peace through superior firepower. Once you engage the enemy you do not pussy foot around trying to find their inner child.
Iraqi, U.S. Forces Kill 50 Militants In Baghdad
BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq’s Defense Ministry said 50 militant fighters were killed in an hours-long battle Tuesday with U.S. and Iraqi soldiers.
U.S. warplanes backed the troops, who fought on the streets of central Baghdad.
U.S. helicopters circled above the Sunni-controlled Haifa Street area where the battle took place. Witnesses said they saw the aircraft fire into the combat zone, which is just north of the heavily fortified Green Zone.
Once you engage the enemy you unleash upon that enemy Hell until they are either dead or they come out with their tail between their legs and beg you to stop.

I guess I would agree with you if we stated that our goal in Iraq was to overtake the country completely. When you want to destroy an enemy, then yes, you show no mercy. However, as long as we say that our goals in Iraq are peace and the spread of democracy, I really don’t see any value in an insistance on complete destruction.
Eventually, if things work out the way you hope, the current enemy or remnants thereof will be the Iraqi admnistration that the U.S. will have to deal with dimplomatically…or maybe we’ll just wait another 20 years and start another war over there just like this one.
You may want to reread what he wrote. He never said anything about “overtaking” the country or “complete destruction”.
Seems to me you read into what he said in order to say what you wanted to say.
He is clearly talking about destroying a specific enemy (the terrorists) through the use of overpowering force.
And I think your history is a little off. We didn’t “start” a war over there. Saddam started it by invading another sovereign nation and then violated the cease-fire that saved his ass the first time around.
One thing I will say about Jeff is he at least understands how to fight a war and defeat an enemy.
Which is more than I can say about other people - some of whom are currently serving in our government.
I didn’t read anything other than what he wrote. And I agree with what he wrote so long as the prerequisite is overtaking a country. I don’t think the “unleash Hell” policy works when you claim to be helping a state establish themselves. Eventually, if that state is established like you hoped, there will be remnants of those you showed no mercy on, and they’ll hold grudges.
Now if you want to argue that there is an actual chance that we can completely destroy those who feel anti-American sentiment in the world, that’s a different story. Yes, his ideas work if we kill all terrorists everywhere forever….
OOHRAH Jeff! Keep up the good updates on the war against these bastards and reminding people how you fight a freaking war!
Grant, whether or not people “hold grudges” is irrelevant to how you fight a war. You cannot worry about that because if you do it will lead to the half fighting of said war.
After WWII lots of Japanese held “grudges” against America for example as did many Germans that continued to take pot shots at our soldiers. There will always be people that hate you and that do not like the fact that they do not get to be in power and opress people. What you do however is make sure that they understand (through superior firepower) is that their quest for domination is useless.
Yes it works.
Oohrahman: “Yes it works.”
As evidenced by Thomas Jefferson taking action against the Barbary States. Only when the threat of superior firepower was no longer there did they resume being a menance. Then they got their butts kicked again after the war of 1812 when superior firepower was once again brought to bear on them.
Some people only understand force. That is a sad fact of life. And we cannot worry about how they will feel after we kick their asses.
