Arab States Support Troops Surge

I think this is true mostly because they fear that they are next if Iraq falls to the terrorists but …
KUWAIT CITY — Eight Arab countries voiced support Tuesday for President Bush’s new strategy of boosting U.S. troop strength in Iraq as part of an effort to secure Baghdad and provide an opportunity for the fragile Iraqi government to establish legitimacy.
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice acknowledged, however, that Sunni Arab leaders in the region worry that the Shiite-dominated government of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki will not deliver on its promises to treat Sunnis fairly and stop the spiraling violence in Baghdad.
“There are concerns about whether the Maliki government is prepared to take an evenhanded, non-sectarian path,” Rice told reporters accompanying her on a quick tour of the Middle East.
Rice met here with foreign ministers from six Arab Gulf countries — Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates — plus Jordan and Egypt. They issued a statement supporting the Bush plan.
Of course I don’t trust these guys as far as I can throw them. But if we can get these Arab states on board why not the Democrats and liberal republicans and psuedo-conservatives … oops I mean “paleo-conservatives”?
