The Sky Is Falling!
J.J. Jackson* | December 8, 2006
This story is a prime example of how the “if it bleeds, it leads” mentality is still alive and well in newsrooms. The United States economy created more jobs than the so-called “experts” predicted but what is the headline? Unemployment is UP!
US unemployment rate creeps up to 4.5%The US economy created more jobs than expected last month, but the unemployment rate moved up slightly. On Friday, the US Labour Department said 132,000 jobs were added to payrolls in November.
STOP THE PRESSES! 4.5% unemployment? Oh my God! Honey! Get the car gassed up! We’re moving to Mexico to escape this horrible economy!
Seriously though, the headline is designed to be “negative” to make those that don’t actually read the story (the vast majority) uniformed about the real truth about the American economy and that we are kicking the snot out of the world.
