Rachel Carson’s “Impact” To Be “Celebrated”
J.J. Jackson | December 7, 2006
I wonder if any of the political yummy brains here in my home city of Pittsburgh will include with this “celebration” of Rachel Carson a serious review of her hackery which resulted in the banning of DDT (which is harmless to humans and other wildlife) and ultimately ended up resulting in the death of millions around the world from mosquito born diseases like malaria?
Rachel Carson impact celebratedThe Pittsburgh area has changed a lot in the almost 100 years since environmentalist and writer Rachel Carson was born in Springdale, but the changes that her work affected in the last 40 years may seem almost as drastic.
The Rachel Carson Homestead Association announced its centennial celebration plans Tuesday to discuss the environmental ideas that she generated that continue to shape public and private policy in the region and worldwide.
“‘Green’ has moved from the fringes of the liberal left to the mainstream,” said Patricia DeMarco, executive director for the association. “Pittsburgh has moved from an environmental quagmire that Rachel viewed with dismay from her window overlooking the Allegheny River to a leader in the quest for environmental sustainability.”
I guess the obvious question can best be summed up by a chant:
“Enviro-weenies what do ya say? How many kids have you killed today?”
It’s pathetic when we “celebrate” someone that aided and abetted the death of more people than Adolph Hitler.
