New York Continues Socialist Takeover Of Private Property

J.J. Jackson | December 6, 2006

Socialism is an economy where property ownership remains (or at least is perceived to remain) private but where the government dictates to land owners how they must use the land and how they must operate their business when they are not infringing upon the rights of others. New York has taken another step towards full fledged socialism by mandating that restaurants must stop using transfats!

NEW YORK (Reuters) — New York City’s board of health on Tuesday voted to phase out most artificial transfats from restaurants, forcing doughnut shops and fast-food stands to remove artery-clogging oils from their cooking.

Their “official” reasons for doing this are of course because they claim to be protecting us from ourselves and that we as citizens are too stupid to decide what to eat and also because they want to prevent problems they are saddled with because it is a burden on state and federal resources which are providing health care. But the real reason is that government is always looking for more of our lives to get involved with and control.

If people want to eat foods prepared with transfats they should be allowed to do so without government interference. Maybe if people had to start worrying about their own healthcare costs they would eat healthier? But no, that’s not a good solution. Because it would mean dismantling a huge government healthcare bureaucracy AND on top of that the government would not be able to justify interfering in the liberties of Americans.
