Huzzah! Judges Take On McCain-Feingold!
J.J. Jackson* | December 26, 2006
Everyone including McCain, Feingold, and all the other little anti-constitution zealots that voted for Campaign Finance Reform knows that it is unconstitutional. That includes President Bush who signed it too. And maybe, just maybe, this hideous piece of anti-free speech legislation will get its day in court and be blown to bits.
Federal judges take swipe at key campaign finance lawWASHINGTON — Cutting the first hole in a key campaign funding law, a federal court here ruled Thursday that corporations, unions and special interest groups had a free-speech right to run some broadcast ads during the campaign season that refer to candidates seeking election.
Finally, a couple judges that actually partially understand their role. Problem is they are apparently only saying that “issue ads” (ads not advocating for or against a candidate) should be allowed when it should not matter what the content. Free speech is “free speech” though so apparently we have a long way to go in getting qualified judges on the bench.
The vote of the three judge panel was 2-1. What do you want to be that that “1” that thought McCain-Feingold is good and just law was a Clinton or Carter appointee?
Yup! He is! U.S. District Judge Richard Roberts - Nominated by William J. Clinton on January 27, 1998 ()
