Former N.J. Senate President Lynch Gets 39-Month Term (Update1)

Dec. 19 (Bloomberg) — Former New Jersey Senate President John A. Lynch Jr., once one of the state’s most powerful Democrats, was sentenced today to three years and three months in prison on federal corruption charges.

Lynch, 68, pleaded guilty on Sept. 15 to taking $25,564 in illegal payoffs from a sand company and evading $150,000 in taxes on money he was paid for a separate development project. Lynch, a 21-year Senate veteran, left office in January 2002 and used his influence to help elect former Governor James McGreevey in 2001.
