In the shadow of the noose, Saddam softens
By Borzou Daragahi, Times Staff Writer
7:39 AM PST, November 7, 2006BAGHDAD — A subdued Saddam Hussein, already sentenced to death in a human rights trial that concluded Sunday, walked into a courtroom again today and called on warring Iraqis outside to let bygones be bygones.
“I call upon all Iraqis, Arabs and Kurds, to forgive, reconcile, and shake hands,” the former dictator said after recounting tales of how both the Prophet Mohammad and Jesus Christ both showed forgiveness to their enemies.
I guess that when you realize you are going to die there is no reason to continue to hold onto false hope. Too bad that Saddam decided to wait until it was far too late to try and play peacemaker and become a uniter.
Not that I believe a word this maniac says of course.
