Business Groups Blast ‘Living Wage’ Ordinance
(CNSNews.com) - Is it the government’s job to close the gap between the rich and the poor? The Los Angeles City Council apparently believes it is, but business groups say it certainly is not.
On Wednesday, the L.A. Council voted 11-3 in favor of a bill that will extend the city’s “living wage” law to 3,500 workers at 13 hotels on Century Boulevard, near Los Angeles International Airport.
“‘Working poor’ should be an oxymoron,” said Councilwoman Janice Hahn at Wednesday’s session. “Nobody who works hard should be poor in America, and it’s time that we are not just ashamed about this, but we do something about it.”
No Councilwoman Hahn, the truth is that someone who works so hard to interfere the right of individuals to freely contract should be “ashamed” to even run for political office to implement left wing, Marxist philosophy upon the constituents she serves.
Why not just make the “living wage” $50,000 per year and get it over with? Why not just go all the way and maybe grant every Los Angeles worker $1,000,000 by government fiat? That would certainly end all of the problems you seek to solve by creating a “living wage”!
However you know why they don’t? Because they don’t like paying $200 for a Big Mac, $100 for their latte at Starbucks or $2,000 for a hotel room for a night!
All you have to do to see how flawed liberal solutions are is follow them to their logical conclusions.
