Idiot Gets Tasered. Plans to Sue?

Ok, get this! The rule is that if you are in the computer lab after 11pm you have to show ID to prove that you are a student, staff or faculty. Don’t do it? Well you might just be asked to leave. So here is the tale of Mostafa Tabatabainejad who failed to do just that.

In an incident caught on a cellphone camera and sparking outrage after a YouTube posting, an Iranian-American senior at the University of California, Los Angeles was stunned five times with a Taser after he refused to show ID in the library and then would not exit promptly. While campus police defended their tactics, the university announced it was investigating the incident and a lawyer for the student announced he would file a lawsuit charging police brutality and false arrest. According to the Daily Bruin, Mostafa Tabatabainejad was in the computer lab in Powell Library at 11:30 p.m. when an unarmed Community Service Officer asked him to produce ID. (Campus policy requires those in the library after 11 p.m. to be prepared to identify themselves, because the library is then limited to students, staff, and faculty, but it’s unclear why the student was chosen.) He did not produce it—apparently he thought he was being racially profiled. He went limp rather than leaving promptly, after which the officers used the Taser. Library Journal

Ok, so the student doesn’t show ID then defies requests to leave. He’s clearly in violation of the rules set down. But he is going to sue because he could not produce ID and then defied the rules?

But wait, there’s more

“Here’s your Patriot Act. Here’s your fucking abuse of power,” the student yelled during the incident with the police. “Stop fighting us,” police responded. “I’m not fighting you,” he responded.

So he was belligerent too? Wow. This looks worse and worse for our little student here who got a hard lesson in life!

Hey, Mostafa, you could have been polite said that you were sorry for not having your ID, left and returned with your ID and avoided this whole problem instead of reverting to automatic “victim” mode and defying a reasonable request from authorities don’t you think? But then again that would require you to take personal responsibility and that would be far too much to ask I suppose.
