Five Game Ban For Albert Haynesworth Not Enough

The episode was sickening. As Haynesworth (Tennessee Titans) stood, stomping on the exposed face of Andre Gurode, center for the Dallas Cowboys, no sane person could image what was going through his mind.

At least he has been punished – suspended for five games without pay which will cost him $190,000.

I’ll gladly say that this punishment for assault and battery is definitely not enough.

Haynesworth should not have been suspended; he should have been banned for life from the NFL. He should be forced to get a real job and deprived of his privilege to play a game for pay. And this would be the case if the NFL had a pair of balls between its legs.

I have no dog in this fight. I root for the Cowboys when the Steelers are not playing but aside from that, I couldn’t care less about either of the two teams involved. A league with any amount of common sense would rip up Haynesworth’s contract and send him home.

But considering the league rarely uses common sense when dealing with issues this man will be back on the field in a couple weeks. What more do you expect from a league that doesn’t let players celebrate the good things they do? Want to dance in the end zone and show joy and pride in your accomplishment while making the other team feel bad? Heck that will cost you 15 yards on the ensuing kick off.
