Well, they’ve found one!
British Soldier Pleads Guilty to War Crimes Over Iraq
Sept. 19 (Bloomberg) — A British soldier pleaded guilty today to a war crime for inhumanely treating Iraqi civilians, in the first prosecution of its kind in the U.K.Corporal Donald Payne admitted to the charge at the start of a court martial at a new military justice center at Bulford Camp, around 80 miles southwest of London. He is charged, along with six others, in connection with the death of Baha Musa, a hotel receptionist allegedly beaten and killed while being detained by U.K. troops in Basra in September 2003.
The servicemen, including the highest ranking U.K. officer charged in connection with an Iraq abuse case, are now being tried over their treatment of Musa and other detainees. All, except for Payne, pleaded not guilty. Payne still faces charges of manslaughter and perverting the course of justice, which he denies.
Well folks that’s it. We have a soldier that has admitted to committing war crimes and Iraq is now officially a failure, a quagmire or whatever term you want to use to describe this fiasco. We might as well pull out and turn the country over to the terrorists. How can we look at ourselves in the mirror knowing that we put this soldier in such a situation as to allow this?
And as we all know just one soldier committing a war crime is enough to condemn all US and UK soldiers. To bad they don’t have the same scorn for Saddam Hussein.
I wonder if the political left would hold the Democrats to this same standard? You know, one bad apple means the whole bunch is rotten?
