Ohio Lawmaker Who Took Illegal Gifts Rebuffs Calls to Resign
New York Times, United StatesWASHINGTON, Sept. 18 — Representative Bob Ney of Ohio, who agreed last week to plead guilty to federal corruption charges, has rebuffed demands that he resign, creating a dilemma for Republican strategists who want him off the public stage before he does any more harm to the party ahead of the November elections.
In letters to the House Republican leadership on Monday, Mr. Ney, who has admitted accepting tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of illegal gifts from lobbyists, said he would immediately step down from two House committees. But he made no mention of leaving Congress altogether.
The only reason this would create a “dilemma” for Republicans is if they are too weak willed to act. But then again I have little faith that the liberal and generally socialism loving Republican party will actually act. If Ney will not step down and resign from Congress completely in disgrace the Republicans should move immediately to impeach him.
Of course, let’s not forget that the Democrats have their own “Culture of Corruption” they are dealing with. William Jefferson, despite being caught red handed with dirty money in his possession has not stepped down and is fighting for his political life.
