Nobel Laureates - Not That Smart
J.J. Jackson* | September 17, 2006
People who win “awards” often do so despite their own ignorance. And often times these “awards” are misnomers. Take the Nobel Peace Prize for example. Nominees and awardees are often not “peaceful” nor do their actions lead to peace. Take Jimmy Carter and his agreed framework for example which for all intents and purposes gave us a sexually deprived, dog eating dictator with nuclear weapons in North Korea who is now threatening the world.
So this comes as no surprise to me!
DENVER — Ten Nobel Peace Prize winners gathered here this weekend to issue a worldwide call for peace and understanding toward all people, with the possible exception of those in the Bush administration. The laureates, who met here to celebrate the 10th anniversary of PeaceJam, an international education organization, opened the three-day event by excoriating the White House for its invasion of Iraq and subsequent increases in military spending.
“I honestly wonder how any of them can think for a nanosecond how having civil war in Iraq has made us safer,” said Jody Williams of Vermont, who won the peace prize in 1997 for her work toward clearing land mines.
Billed as the largest U.S. gathering of Nobel Peace Prize winners in history, the event served as a starting point for the laureates’ “Global Call to Action,” an initiative aimed at urging young people to record 1 billion “acts of peace” over the next 10 years.
About 3,000 young people from 31 countries attended the event, held at the University of Denver.
The event’s biggest names, the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, steered clear of politics. The Dalai Lama was greeted like a rock star yesterday before a one-hour speech in which he urged young people to embrace globalization.
“There are no national boundaries. The whole globe is becoming one body,” the Tibetan spiritual leader said. “In these circumstances, I think war is outdated — destruction of your neighbor is actually destruction of yourself.” - Washington Times
I’m sorry, but the way to peace is to have no national boundaries? Aw, let’s all sing Kumbayah! Mr. Dalai Lama you sir, are a dolt. About the only thing that has kept the world somewhat stable is national boundaries and the desire of people to defend them.
Otherwise Hitler would rule most of Europe and Stalin the rest along with most of Asia. Although you might like that.
So what do these dimbulbs whose opinions garner more weight than they deserve think is the problem?
The Nobel Peace Prize winners also issued a statement identifying 10 “barriers to global peace.” They included disease, poverty, nuclear weapons, social injustice, racism, access to natural resources and the rights of women and children.
As the Times properly points out,
Conspicuously absent from the list was global terrorism. Several laureates said that terrorism was an outgrowth of ignorance, prejudice and inequality, and that it cannot be eradicated until those underlying social issues are addressed.
Uh no. How about terrorism from Islamists is a result of their desire to control the freaking world and force you to worship Allah in the ways they dictate!
Really all they did was recite the same left wing talking points their socialist and communist brethern have for decades. What they really want is high taxes on the productive haves to cure the poverty and “injustice” of the slothful have nots. Poverty and “injustice” which I might add is 95% of their own doing if not more.
Then of course there was this idiot
“Bush says he prays. But I think God covers up His ears when George Bush prays,” Mr. Esquivel said
Yes, that’s right Mr. Esquivel whose only real claim to fame is that someone thought (incorrectly) that he was smart is now judging how Christian President Bush is. Eerily similar to how radical faiths judge others.
Please Mr. Esquivel, do not speak for God. Do not even TRY to. Because when you do, God just laughs.
What these people are is a group who hope one day that the world will be simply a big socialist or communist collective and that they will be awarded places of honor in the government. What will really happen is they will be the first ones into the ovens.
