Forget Islamic Agression Towards Israel - UN Takes On US

It is no wonder people think the United Nations is an incompetent body. Years of evidence continue to pile up. Apparently, to cover up its own inability to enforce it’s own resolution which was to remove Hezbollah from southern Lebanon they have decided to complain, once again, about the United States.
GENEVA ? The United States should adopt a moratorium on death sentences, a U.N. rights body said Friday, noting that capital punishment appears to be disproportionately imposed on minority groups and poor people. The U.S. “should place a moratorium on capital sentences, bearing in mind the desirability of abolishing death penalty,” the U.N. Human Rights Committee said in a 12-page release of findings on U.S. compliance with a 40-year-old treaty guaranteeing everyone civil and political rights. - Fox News
This may well be true but it ignores the fact that the United States does not execute people because they are “poor” or are “minorities”. If criminals that commit capital offenses which carry the death penalty (you know, like murder) happen to be in those categories is does not excuse those crimes.
In a statement, our mission in Geneva
“criticized much of the report, saying it made only tenuous connections between the 1966 International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and proposed recommendations ? particularly those relating to issues outside U.S. borders, which Washington says are not covered by the treaty.”
Which of course is true. But then again, when you are an organization such as the UN which has been wrought with scandals including where UN peacekeepers are raping civilians and failing to enforce resolutions I guess you have to try hard to make people look elsewhere for problems.
The panel, a group of 18 independent experts who review the practices of the 156 countries who have ratified the covenant, said it regretted that the U.S. had not indicated if it has taken steps to review federal and state legislation “with a view to assessing whether offenses carrying the death penalty are restricted to the most serious crimes.”
Want a bunch of bureaucratic gobbledygook! I think our court system is pretty well open enough that you can tell for which crimes people are getting the death penalty. I for one cannot think of once where such punishment was meted out for something less than “the most serious crimes”.
Anyone ever get the death penalty for jaywalking or telling an off color joke about our President like they do in third world dictatorships?
In the end all that we see is that, once again, the United Nations really does not care about the real problems of the world. Rather they simply are content to bash the one nation that provides land for their headquarters, most of their money and most of their military power. That’s gratitude for you. And I just have one thing to say:

Piss on the United Nations!
