And Some Of You Trust Government With Your Money?
J.J. Jackson* | July 11, 2006
It amazes me that so many Americans trust government to do things for them like save for their retirement and pay for their drugs. But time and again we bear witness to government ineptitude on issues of much less importance.
The state Division of Veterans Affairs plans to correct many mistakes etched into the West Virginia Veterans Memorial on the Capitol grounds.Legislators appropriated $350,000 during the June special session toward redoing the entire memorial, which contains 165 misspellings of soldiers’ names on black granite panels.
Another 718 names need to be added, said Ginny Painter, deputy commissioner for the state Division of Culture and History.
Listed on the monument are the names of 10,159 West Virginia members of the armed forces who died during wartime.
“Each panel will be ground down and we’ll have to do every single name again,” Painter said. “We’ll have to re-polish the granite and re-etch all of the names correctly.” - The Daily Mail
Indeed. And you think they can do the bigger things better?
