Treating Bad Guys Bad is Bad M’Kay?
J.J. Jackson* | June 14, 2006
Holding hundreds of prisoners in the 6-by-8-foot cages of a remote camp for more than four years, without charges, rights, decent treatment or hope that they’ll ever get out is not only immoral, it’s also a prescription for despair, unrest and tragedy.
Or at least so claims an editorial in the San Jose Mercury.
Ok, so let’s get this straight. Catching terrorists fighting against us and their abettors on the field of battle, detaining them, and questioning them is bad? No, sorry - I mean “immoral”?
Listen, I don’t know who the yummy brain is that wrote this tripe but let’s be serious for a moment ok? Fighting a war against an enemy that has stated time and time again that their goal is to “kill the infidel” is not “immoral”. In fact it is very “moral” in the sense that moral means “of or relating to principles of right and wrong in behavior : ETHICAL b : expressing or teaching a conception of right behavior c : conforming to a standard of right behavior”. I sweat will SOMEONE please propose a federal welfare program that is actually useful? Like perhaps one that would buy every liberal in America a dictionary so they can look up the words they bandy around?
Oh but the psychobabble goes on
And so the only surprise about the news this weekend that three prisoners hanged themselves at the U.S. detention camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, is that it didn’t happen sooner. It’s not for lack of trying. There have been dozens of suicide attempts there, including 41 this year and a single incident in 2003 when 23 inmates attempted a mass hanging. And dozens of detainees who went on hunger strikes last year were strapped into restraint chains and fed by force.
GOOD! Let them kill themselves! It’s against the beliefs of Islam to do so! And it is a few fewer radical nutballs to have to deal with which means we waste less bullets and save the taxpayers a few bucks.
You are surprised it didn’t happen sooner? Dear Lord in Heaven! These prisoners are treated better than some of military men and women languishing in prisons shackles in solitary confinement without even being charged with a crime! Can we get an editorial about that please?
And then in a twist of facts worthy of a 2006 Sanger Cup nomination the author concludes
After four years, the United States must be able to bring the terrorists among them to trial and send the rest back to their own countries — or at least give them a chance to challenge their imprisonment. As long as places such as Guantanamo stay open, America cannot hope to transform the Middle East or begin to win the war on terror.
Hello? Earth to editorialist! They are being held as enemy combatants in a WAR. We don’t have to let them go until the war is over. We do not need to charge them with anything!
And oh, by the way, with regards to your last incredibly ignorant statement have you missed the three successful elections in Iraq and the formation of a new government? And all that happened when? Gee, while Guantanamo was open - which you claim is impossible!
Maybe this author is right. Maybe we should just close the Guantanamo Resort & Spa. Instead we should do to these would-be prisoners what the terrorists do to our men and women they capture on the battle field - put a bullet in their heads.
