Smell Test Applied To Dixie Chicks
J.J. Jackson* | June 1, 2006
The headlines read “Dixie Chicks No. 1″ or words to that extent to describe the supposed phenominal success the Dixie Chicks latest album is having even years after Natalie Maines pissed off country music fans with her rants about President Bush. Ok, so a bunch of liberals who flock like sheep to anything that smacks of being anti-Bush rushed out and gobbled up some 525,000 copies of the album last week.
However there is a problem with the spin about how popular the Dixie Chicks are. That problem is with how their songs fared with people that make money playing the songs people want to hear in order to make money. In fact “Not Ready to Make Nice,” (the first single from the album) clawed up only to 36 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart and their second single “Everybody Knows,” sits only at 50.
Maines also admitted that she was a phony back in January saying
“For me to be in country music to begin with was not who I was … I would be cheating myself … to go back to something that I don’t wholeheartedly believe in. So I’m pretty much done.” - CNN
Yep, you heard right. Maines admitted that pretty much she was just following the money and a sell out. I don’t recall her having a huge problem before with being country.
Apparently however she wasn’t done basically insulting country music fans
“They’ve shown their true colors. I like lots of country music, but as far as the industry and everything that happened … I couldn’t want to be farther away from that.”
Sounds, once again, like a spoiled baby no longer adored by the crowd for spitting up all over them and then blaming the crowd.
Well, as CNN also reports, Natalie and the Dixie Chicks will apparently be out searching for another new image as “Not Ready to Make Nice” rose only to 32 on the AC charts. Oh well, perhaps they will try to revive disco for their next album …
