Let’s Call A Spade A Shovel and Start Digging!

The following saying is one my priest says on many different occasions during his homily at mass. I really love that saying and since I don’t think he has a patent on it, I’m using it right now.
Why am I using such a phrase? I’m talking about an important issue we are facing today: our energy problem. Specifically, I would like to discuss our gasoline prices.
No, I’m not going to attack the mean ol’ oil companies who are trying to do such an evil thing like make a profit. You would think that in a free market society (the kind of society the United States once was, but way before my lifetime), profits would be a good thing. It seems as though that even some Republicans are blaming the oil companies for such problems.
However, those on Capitol Hill need to look no further than the mirror to see who is at fault for our problems. It would be even easier for them if there were some environmentalist morons standing right behind them in that mirror.
Without the exact number as to how much federal and state tax is embedded on each gallon of gasoline we buy, the fact remains is that we have a tax in the first place. I understand that a government must be funded in order to operate. I would like to think that with half of my paycheck going to them every year, as well as the hundreds of millions of Americans who pay about the same would be enough.
But, instead of looking at the possibility that their taxes may be a problem, let’s look at the oil companies who barely make a dime of profit for each gallon!
Or, maybe we can look at the fact that while we have more oil here in the lower 48 than the Middle East, we are still sending our money overseas. I mean, our dependence on oil from countries seeking our demise is okay as long as we don’t disturb any precious wildlife.
But, I’m sure somehow it’s really all the SUVs’ in evil America’s fault!
