Lessons Unlearned

Days after “Mission: Impossible III” opened to lower-than-expected domestic ticket sales, a USA Today/Gallup poll showed Cruise’s star power in the eyes of the public has dimmed considerably.
In the poll of 1,013 adults conducted during the film’s first weekend in theaters, 35 percent registered a favorable opinion of Cruise, to 51 percent with an unfavorable opinion.
That’s a major turnaround from last year, when Cruise’s previous film, “War of the Worlds,” opened and his poll ratings were 58 percent favorable and 31 percent unfavorable. - Reuters
But that didn’t stop the Hollywood elite from rallying to his side! Paramount Pictures Chairman Brad Grey in defiance of the opinion of the American people came out and defended Tommy Boy.
“He is clearly, on a profit basis as well as a creative basis, one of the biggest stars in the world.”
Industry officials pointed to the fact that MI:III still grossed
$47.7 million in its first three days at the North American box office
and an
additional $70 million in overseas
which is still good by movie standards for and opening weekend. Ok, it’s better than good. It’s GREAT!
But we’re going to do here what liberals do all the time to the economy and everything else when numbers aren’t as good as “experts” expect - we’re going to tell them they failed. You know like when the “experts” say that because they predicted 300,000 new jobs in a month and all we got was 250,000 and they turn around and talk about how the numbers weren’t as good as “expected”.
So since the $47.7 million was less than the $60 to $70 million the “experts” expected we’re going to call it a “failure” or perhaps a “cause for concern”. Hey, what’s good for the goose is good for the gander!
