Joe Lockhart Criticizes Tony Snow/President Bush

“My fear for Tony is that where fundamental changes are needed, they’ll only let him make cosmetic changes,” Lockhart said. “They want to do what they’ve done with every problem they’ve had: pretend there is some magic P.R. dust to sprinkle on it. They need to completely rethink how they deal with the press and the public.” - Los Angeles Times

I guess old Joe would know about the “magic P.R. dust” approach considering all of the real scandals that directly involved the Clintons whom he served as Press Secretary under. In fact that was basically the Clinton White House’s approach up through even the Monica Lewinski scandal where good old Billy wagged his finger at us and then admitted he flat out lied and worked to prevent a woman from having her Constitutionally guaranteed day in court

“Magic P.R. dust” indeed.

Contrast that to made up scandal after made up scandal concocted by disgruntled liberals and the media during the Bush Presidency. The White House doesn’t need to “completely rethink how they deal with the press and the public”. What the Press needs to do is rethink how it deals with the President. Ever see a White House Press Briefing these days? Reporter 1 stands up asks a question and the Press Secretary answers. Reporter 2 not liking the answer then stands up and asks the same question (sometimes rephrased a little) and the Press Secretary answers again. Then Reporter 3 still not liking the answer stands up … you get the picture.

The White House Press Corps knows they have a problem; especially those that belong to major newspapers and the major television networks. That problem is that fewer and fewer people are listening to them. Circulation is down and so is viewership of the “Big Three”. And they don’t like that.

Instead you have networks like Fox News kicking ass in the ratings. That makes their blood boil. And you see it reflected in their childish badgering over and over and over against with the same questions.

What Joe Lockhart REALLY means by saying “They need to completely rethink how they deal with the press and the public” is that George Bush should just admit that he lied about Iraq and Saddam having WMDs and about them having ties to terrorists and also admit that he REALLY is in league with the big oil companies to keep gas prices high, that he REALLY was AWOL from the National Guard and say that Dan Rather was right, and admit to every other left wing talking point. That’s what he REALLY means.

Get over it. I don’t think it is going to happen.
